Daily Devotional Podcast

You may join me for a part of my own daily devotionals by sharing in the podcast below.  It runs about 17 or so minutes.

Daily Update

Thursday is our day for taping and recording for our Sunday worship services.  Again, special thanks to people who are involved in this, including Val Gibson and Jiafeng Yan, our accompanists.  Jordan Thomas does the editing of the videos and Mark Richardson does some sort of tech-magic to make them all available to us on the church's website.

I offered to have video sessions of the Bible Study groups, but no one wanted to continue doing more video. People are very eager, however, to see each other and have Bible study in person again.  So, I'm going back to the drawing board to find ways to help us continue to study the Bible together during this time of separation. We most definitely need the help that Bible reading and study can provide us in these days...especially these days. Let me know if you have any suggestions.  Also, many people in our church do not have the computer set up to join in "Zoom" sessions.

We received word today that Jerry Welch was admitted to Sarah Bush, but was being released this afternoon.

Also, Mona Buckley reports that Charlotte Upton is going to be able to get back to her own house on May 4.
Life Goes On

Today, April 23 is
  • Talk Like Shakespeare Day
  • Thank You Thursday
  • Love Your Thighs Day
  • Lost Dog Awareness Day
  • English Language Day and
  • World Book Night
You might want to go a little easy on the talking-like-Shakespeare thing.  People are already a little disoriented these days as it is, and you might scare some people.  On the other hand, if your daughter happens to be a theater major who has appeared in several of Shakespeare's plays, and she first heard of Shakespeare because you read to her from his works when she was growing up...and if you are ONLY talking to her today, you might get away with it.

Thank You Thursday is the brainchild of a motivational speaker (of course!)  Jon Gordon (whom I have not heard of before) stared this annual day in 2016.

Love Your Thighs Day is purportedly for women...and I tread carefully here...who are thinking about showing a little more thigh these coming warm months.   (Gosh, I'm in a spot now...no matter what I say for the rest of this paragraph is going to get me in trouble!)  The day was started by two business women who invented some sort of apparel to keep their thighs from chapping.  They wanted to encourage women to be proud of their thighs, no matter what they looked like, which sounds okay to me, as I'm all for positive body image.  They also wanted to encourage people who don't like their thighs to lose weight...which seems like a contradictory message...  I think I've said enough!

Lost Dog Awareness Day reminds me of the time that Alison and Nelson's dog (Fitz) ran away from home.  I wrote one of my Sunday letters about that, and have decided to share it with you as a way to honor that day. Click Here if you'd like to read it.

English Language Day both celebrates English and provides an opportunity to lament.  It is spoken in over 60 countries around the world (good!) and is one of the most difficult languages to learn because of its many nonsensical elements (ugh).

And World Book Night is designed to correspond to a children's observance, Book Day.  I guess that adults should be busy working during the day, not reading books.  And so the founders decided to make it World Book NIGHT.  So curl up with a good book before you go to sleep tonight.
