Russian Hostilities
In both of Mr. Cell's high school classes, US History and Economics, students have been examining the historical, economic, and political context and ramifications of the current Russian hostilities and threats against Ukraine. In particular, the classes examined past cold war politics, and asked in what ways the cold war has perhaps not yet ended. They are also looking at how natural gas and oil futures are incorporating this conflict, as well as the history, limitations, and prospects of economic sanctions. Their analysis includes the development of hybrid-warfare that utilizes cyber attacks, and the threat that they now pose to Ukraine, Europe, and the U.S. They are tracking the position and ramifications for the Biden administration, and a fissure in approaches to this situation among conservatives.
