A Message from our Parish Pastor, Father Phil
|
|
Dear Parishioners:
COVID-19. . . 2020 Census . . . Supreme Court confirmation hearings . . . Presidential election . . . Know the topic that’s making me more nervous than anything else? Christmas.
For Christmas-related planning purposes, I am making three assumptions:

Pastoral Council and School Advisory Open Positions
|
|
Dear Parishioners,
Every year in the spring positions (seats) on the School Advisory Board and Pastoral Council are vacated due to terms ending. In a normal year we would have a discernment process to fill these seats. Due to 2020 being a very unusual year, we were not able to follow any norms. There are currently two open positions on both Pastoral Council and School Advisory. Please consider volunteering for a position. We need energy and passion, we need the parish members to support these important roles. If you want to have input this is a positive way to do so. If you are interested or would like more information please contact me.
Tony Misho, Pastoral Council Chair

Faithful Citizenship 2020
|
|
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and Wisconsin Catholic Conference have put together several resources to help Catholics reflect on their duties as faithful citizens.
Second in a five-part Faithful Citizenship series:
|
“In the Catholic Tradition, responsible citizenship is a virtue, and participation in political life is a moral obligation. As Catholics, we should be guided more by our moral convictions than by our attachment to a political party or interest group.”
– Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship
|
|
We are called to witness to Faithful Citizenship as we participate in the public square through political engagement and civil dialogue. Featuring Archbishop José H. Gomez of Los Angeles, president of the USCCB, and young adults.

St. Vincent de Paul Society Mission Statement: “A network of friends, inspired by the gospel values, growing in holiness and building a more just world through personal relationships with and service to people in need.”
The Conference of St. John the Baptist St. Vincent de Paul Society is celebrating it’s AWARENESS MONTH starting now through October, 2020. Could this be the time when YOU consider joining the Conference of St John the Baptist St Vincent De Paul Society?
Who we are and what we do
- We are volunteers who serve the poor in the city and rural areas of Plymouth.
- We are volunteers who assist at the SVdP store.
How we serve those in need...We help people secure needs like food, rent, utility bills, along with clothes, furniture, and household items.
Where the money comes from...The money comes from donations from the generous people at St John the Baptist and St Thomas Aquinas and proceeds from items sold at SVdP store.
Would you like to become a Vincentian? - Joining the Society of St Vincent De Paul leads you on a journey toward holiness because becoming a Vincentian is a vocation - a calling to serve God in His poor. It is an opportunity to put faith into action in a practical way, in a spiritual context. The primary call of the Vincentian life is to see Christ in those we serve. By loving those we serve in this way, we also become the face of God to our neighbors in need.

A Message from the School Principal, Mrs. Amy Nelson
|
|
With a month of school under our belts, it is time to celebrate the many successes so far! Here is a sampling of successes that teachers shared:
- Ready to go virtual if we need to; have prepared several lesson plans in advance just in case.
- Math celebrations: "Students in grade 3 already mastered "rounding" after only a few weeks!' "Students in one of the middle school groups figured out how integers work after only three days of instruction!"
- Students are doing well with the "new normal" of mask-wearing and safety protocols due to COVID.
- Guided Reading is underway!
- Our virtual learners are doing well with participating in science experiments at home.
- Excited to get to know students better and to build positive rapports!
- Impressed with how well students have retained knowledge from the previous year
Just like it is important for parents to celebrate successes with their child(ren), it is equally important for me as the principal to celebrate successes with the teachers and the students. I am proud of the teachers' positive and creative efforts and of the students' enthusiasm for learning. Thank you for your continued support!
Mrs. Amy Nelson

Curious about RCIA? Know someone who is considering becoming Catholic?
You are cordially invited to learn what Catholics believe in an open and welcoming environment through the RCIA Program. RCIA stands for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Anyone is welcome to participate - from folks who have been baptized in a different Christian faith to those who have never been baptized in any faith to ‘cradle Catholics’ who want to know the Catholic faith more completely. Through RCIA, adults can become fully initiated into the Catholic Church by receiving Baptism, First Holy Communion and/or Confirmation if they desire. Contact Paige Katzfey by the end of the month via phone at (920) 892-4006 x315 or email at pkatzfey@sjbplymouth.org for more information and/or to register.

Winter – Second Sunday in November to April 1st
CEMETERY NEEDS….
The cemetery is in need of a walk behind mower. If you have a mower in good working order that you don’t need, please consider donating it to the cemetery.
GOUNDS HELP for 2021
Thank you, Ric Schoneman, parishioner and Rob Kraus, friend of SJB, for stepping up to take care of the cemetery grounds this summer since Tony’s departure.
We will need of a few individuals to assist beginning in Spring 2021. Ideally, two individuals would make the job very manageable. It takes about 12 – 15 hours per week depending on the season and growing conditions.

Help us get to the finish line!
Our Road America Concessions season is coming to a close.
We REALLY, REALLY need some help, as the majority of our summer workers have gone back to school. There is one public race next weekend and a private race to end the season. Fall is a beautiful time of year to be out at the track. Sign-up today!

Unplanned (2019) Screening - October 19
Please join members of the SJB community for a screening of Unplanned (2019), which tells the inspiring true story of one woman's journey of transformation. The screening will be on Monday, October 19 at 6:00pm in the School Library, and registration is required. CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE AND REGISTER
