Achieved Our Goal of 70 Members!

Message from the Chair

Wow! This is the best headline ever! We exceeded our goal and celebrate 74 members in our Circle to date.

Thank you to all of our members for making the Business Women’s Circle a premier giving circle in Northern Virginia. Your trust and support have helped earn this distinction. This success is possible because of our dedicated leadership team who set a vision for the year and focused on delivering those promises. Guided by our strategic plan, we focused this year on two important pillars Growth and Governance. Growth allows us to have greater impact in our focus area to move the needle on issues surrounding girls pursuing STEM interests. This year’s grant pool is our largest, over $80,000 will go a long way to support impactful programs and grow our endowment. Our funding supports more moments of: "I'm good at math" (Shine), "I have potential energy" (Trails For Youth), "I'm a STEM leader in my school" (Hillsboro).

While fall is here and “fall back” is on November 3 ^rd , the BWGC is doing anything but… we continue to look forward:

The 2020 slate of Steering Committee leaders has been announced
Annual Membership Survey open- we want your feedback to help plan for next year
All members are invited to the Annual Meeting on October 29^th. This fun focused meeting will be a great way for new members to learn more about our work and help shape the year ahead.

Last, I personally invite each of you to a Holiday-ish Open House at my home on November 21 ^st . Come and enjoy being a part of this incredible Circle of amazing women!

Thrilled to Announce We Have Over 70 Members

We are incredibly excited to share we have achieved one of our big goals set during our 2018-2021 Strategic Planning offsite. Our annual goal for 2019 was to have at least 70 new members and we are at 74!

Thank you to everyone who continued to support the BWGC Mission and to new members who decided to support BWGC and our grantees for another year. We appreciate everyone who helped bring in new members and we cannot wait to Connect, Invest, and Inspire as we look ahead.

Volunteer Opportunities with Our Grantee RESET

Volunteers don’t have to have a computer science background; we will provide detailed instructions on each of the activities. The program involves a mix of SCRATCH programming and “unplugged” activities that encourage computational thinking. Event details are above; please let me know if you are willing to participate for all or part of the time.

Grants Shark Tank Coming Soon!

The Grants Committee carries out the grantmaking pillar of the BWGC mission. The Committee is responsible for reviewing and evaluating grant applications, narrowing the field to semifinalists, and ultimately selecting the final slate of grantees that is recommended to the full Circle. We take pride in our intentional, strategic, and evidence-based approach.

The Grants Committee Meeting & Work Schedule is as follows:

Oct 3-24: Reading & Evaluation period (complete evals by October 24 COB)
Nov 7, 5-8 pm: In-person meeting - Discuss applications & determine semifinalists
Nov 19, 9 am-12 pm: In person meeting - Shark Tank semifinalist presentations & selection of slate of grantees (all BWGC members welcome)

The Bus iness Women's Giving Circle (BWGC) is a component fund of the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia. It brings together engaged women who want to support positive change for girls and young women in our community. Launched in 2014, the BWGC invests in innovative programs, connects meaningfully with members and grantees, and inspires others to join the power of collective philanthropy.
