SPREADING KINDNESS AND HELPING OTHERS
Westside is undertaking a major renovation of the LMC. The first week of school 2 Prairie View students stopped by, curious...They stayed  and helped with books until 5:30 PM!

Then, a few days later in the early afternoon,  they asked if they could help again when they saw a staff member pull into the Westside parking lot with three big loads to carry in!  With efficiency, effectiveness and cheerfulness, they stayed until the end of the afternoon doing 100 tasks, small and large!

We are proud of these Prairie View students for giving a helping hand!

Jamal, 12th Grade

With every role, I learn something new about myself and develop different techniques and skills. There have been lots of trial and error with analyzing and deconstructing this role, but it has been one of the best experiences for me. Because this is my last high school musical, the feeling of leaving it out on stage fuels my soul. I really enjoy the cast that I am surrounded by and the directors that give me so much guidance and so much freedom with every show. As stressful as it is, the musical is the BEST part of my day and the reason I get up every morning. I couldn't ask for a better opportunity.

My BIGGEST takeaway from the SP music program would probably be my love for the arts. I want to do this for the rest of my life because I think it's pretty neat that someone can get up on stage or on TV and evoke emotion out of others and impact them in different ways. Every time I get on stage, I feel this rush that makes me remember that this is what I truly love to do. In college, I hope to pursue musical theater, but be involved in all forms of entertainment (film, stage, singer, etc). I really appreciate everything this program has done for me as a person and a performer.

Madison, 12th Grade

It's been really fun! I really love the role of Rusty and think that she is very similar to me as a person. I find it easy to relate to her and am always finding new ways to express myself through that character. It has also been challenging. Trying to balance theater and school has been a little hard. Also, trying to maintain good health can be difficult but getting closer and closer to performances is exciting enough.

My biggest takeaway is to never underestimate the people around you and be true to yourself. Not only has doing the productions been just a great experience performing wise, but the people you meet along the way have also impacted me. I've met some of my best friends through the program and the support everyone has for each other is amazing. And the best part, is that everyone is so real and their most raw self. With theater, you're often very vulnerable and trying new things with every role you take on, so being able to express yourself and act a bit goofy is so refreshing. The outstanding talent will always continue to amaze me.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT: DENETRICE SERCYE, MS. DEE

Meet Denetrice Sercye (Ms. Dee),  Lead Administrative Associate at Creekside!

Tell Us About Yourself: My husband William and I have 3 girls Danaree, Adriana and Cierra. W e moved from Illinois in 2003 to Sun Prairie Wisconsin. Our family loves watching movies, going out to eat and VACATIONS! I have worked at Horizon, Royal Oaks and now Creekside.

What do you like to do, when you're not at school/work: I love to treat myself to a meal and a movie. Normally, it's the $5 movie and points I've earned going to TGIF. I love hanging with my family, girlfriends and my church family. I love puzzle books.

Favorite Story from your job: It's always great to see students outside of work. I feel like a superstar when they run up to hug me or say "Hey Ms. Dee!" Most times I am with my family and my husband will introduce himself as "Mr. Dee". My girls will say "you know everyone" The awkward part is when I do not know the adult they might be with and you can see the confusion from their adult.

TASK FORCE ON STUDENT BEHAVIOR AND BULLYING

The Sun Prairie Area School District staff  strive to maintain a learning environment that is safe and a culture that is respectful and conducive to effective learning.  Recent district data related to expulsions; behavioral referrals; student mental health; staff, student, parent satisfaction surveys; and parent feedback indicates that we have not yet achieved our goals and are not meeting the expectations we have for ourselves. To that end, we formed a District Taskforce on Student Behavior and Bullying.

Here are the summaries from the past meetings:

MEET REGGIE, KITCHEN SUPERVISOR AT C.H. BIRD!
"I work at C.H. Bird as the Kitchen Supervisor. I have been working for Sun Prairie Schools for 3 years. My favorite part of the job is seeing smiles on a student's face each and every day as they line up for breakfast every morning, getting ready to start a day of learning with a full stomach! It is funny when they come and ask me if I can make them their favorite meal that they like to eat at home. They always say I am a great cook! When I am not working, I'm coaching basketball or doing something else that has to do with helping kids grow to be great, smart, and respectable. I love what I do and I will never stop helping kids Grow!" - Reggie
