The Morning Star Weekly Newsletter Vol 5, Edition 12 10/27/2020
Dear Morning Star Families and Friends,

This year we celebrate the Year of St. Joseph. Every day at 12:35pm our school stops and prays the Prayer to St. Joseph together. This week we pray to him for the strength to live out the call to Justice. Please join us in prayer...

Joseph the Just Man

"Dear Joseph, model of a loving father and a just man, teach me to live out the call to justice in my daily life. I feel overwhelmed at times by the needs of our dear neighbors. Let me take courage for the struggle from the compassionate response I see in your care.
For Jesus and Mary.
Amen.”

By Sister Kathleen Power, SSJ

This week we would also like to share a wonderful story. One of our former students, Ty Oliver, chose Morning Star School as his Eagle Scout service project. Ty chose to build three benches for our Peace Garden
“This is a wonderful garden that is peaceful and comforting" said Ty "however, there is nowhere to sit and rest while taking in the beauty of the garden. Therefore, I am going to build three benches for Morning Star students to enjoy the beauty of the garden more fully.” Ty began his project with a proposal in August and with my approval he began to build the benches. Last week Ty delivered his benches and presented them to the school. The benches are a beautiful addition to the Peace Garden. I could not be more pleased (and proud) of what Ty has created and achieved as a former Morning Star student.

Please have a blessed week,
Elaine Shott, Principal

Fall Fun Day is this Friday!
Friday, October 30th, we will have "Fall Fun Day". All students may wear a costume to school. Costumes must be school appropriate-no gory, scary, or inappropriate costumes will be permitted. If your child prefers not to wear a costume, he or she may dress in orange and black.

If your child is remote learning during the 2nd nine weeks, we will have a packet for them so he or she can partake in activities as well. Packets may be picked up on Wednesday, 10/28 or Thursday, 10/29 during school hours (8am-3pm). If you need to pick up after that, after school is until 6pm, but please reach out to us and let us know if you are coming during after school care hours.

Helping the Environment

Morning Star believes in supporting companies that support our environment. Thanks to the yearbook orders for the 2019-2020 school year, 45 trees will be planted in partnership with Tree Ring, our yearbook vendor.
Honoring our Veterans

November 11th is Veteran's Day, and we are decorating our billboards to honor our family and friends who have served. If you would like to add a photo to honor your veteran, please email it Ms. Dodge at pdodge@morningstar-jax.org, or drop off a photocopied photograph at the front office. Photos will not be returned.
Guinea Pig Items Needed

Our school guinea pigs are bringing joy and comfort to so many students. But it takes a lot to keep them fed and clean. If you are able to donate, please have your child drop the items off at the teacher's classroom or at the front office. Boo, Buttercup, Sherman, and Puff will be very grateful. Donation items are listed below.

PRIMARY NEWS
Our new Primary students are happy to participate in Show & Tell!
Students enjoyed making spooky spiders in art class using glitter, glue, and clay.
JUNIOR HIGH NEWS
A big thank you to the McCray Family who was kind enough to donate Lego sets for our Junior High 1 class. With these cool Legos came even more exciting lessons. Students were able to group our Legos into portions and then ratios in Math class. Thank you again McCray family for making learning fun!
Junior High 1 read "Off and Running", a story about school class elections. They then had their own mock class election. Students made speeches, slogans, and plans on how to make our school better. Students also cast their ballot and waited for the results. Be on the lookout for amazing things from these students in the future.
