Acceleration East High School
Community Brief

With one of our Phoenixes today, Pajama Day, the first day of Spirit Week at AEHS!
We are now already inside week 3 of quarter 2. Please be aware that we have several strategic goals working, but these two are especially important: 1) academic achievement; and 2) meeting the social emotional needs of students and our teachers.

As we know, if we cannot help our employees navigate through these very complex times, then we cannot expect our students to meet the desired outcomes and have the opportunities they deserve. Our administration does all that we can to let our teachers and staff know they are doing a fine job, but hearing that from a parent or a member of our school community, carries a lot of weight. If you know of a teacher or staff member that in your opinion has been performing at a high level, kindly take a moment to let them know - teacher & staff emails. It would mean a great deal.

Our students are learning very quickly that our expectation is that they put forth their best effort. At Acceleration East High School we celebrate the successes and victories - however small. We have dedicated teachers who work beyond school hours and have shared mini-victories such as a student who finally received his high school diploma. In an era where we don't know when the next victory is coming - stop, look around, and find something; anything that can be launching point for more success. Small victories are our continuing focal point.

Enjoy the week and thank you for looking over some of our recent highlights.

Boston University is seriously looking at Yicsia for next fall and the bicycle will be a big help to her during this final year of high school.

Meet Sergeant Torres!
Sergeant Juan Torres is our new School Resource Officer. He served on the City of Philadelphia police force for over 21 years. We are glad to have Sergeant Torres here at AEHS!

Art with Mrs. Ker
Mrs. Ker's art students have been painting rain barrels for  the 2020 Orlando Utilities Commission Annual Rain Barrel Project. Working with the schools, this is an OUC effort which has been in place since 2006 to raise awareness about the importance of water conservation. We wanted the community to see some of the students' work in progress heading into late October.  We will share the end products in a later issue.

Monday's Motivational Moment!
 A CALL TO ARMS

During World War II, the allied forces called every available man to be ready to fight in the Battle of the Bulge. A unit consisting of clerks and office workers was hastily converted to infantry and assigned to a section of the road that was expected to be under fire within hours.

The men were ordered to dig foxholes from which to fight. One man, who had spent years at a typewriter, tried his best but made little progress in the stone hard ground. Finally, he approached his lieutenant and said, "Sir, wouldn't it be easier if we just attacked and made them dig the foxholes?"

Until you value yourself,
you won't value your time. Until you value your time,
you will not do anything with it.
