St. Mary's Visitation Catholic Parish School exists to direct children toward God and toward Christian Service to society through Catholic religious formation, academic challenge, and continuous improvement.
Principal Notes

Dear Families,

During Lent we are invited to undertake a journey of repentance, fasting, and alms-giving. We pray for others and ourselves. We share our time and ourselves more generously with other people. Fasting is also part of our Lenten ritual.

When we think of fasting, we likely first think about the traditional rules of fast and abstinence on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Or giving up a favorite food or drink. These are good tools the Church gives us to nudge us in the right direction on our road to conversion. But perhaps we can begin to think about fasting in additional ways. What are the things in our lives that hinder us from having a deeper and more loving relationship with God and our neighbor? What other things can we fast from? You may want to consider some of the suggestions below. You certainly can think of others.

Fast from Noise: Turn off our phones. Tune in God’s voice instead. Silence is a rare gift.

Fast from Gossip: There is a Buddhist saying: Is it nice? Is it true? Is it necessary?  

Fast from Busyness: Constantly rushing around can prevent us from hearing God’s voice. Slow down and make time for God.

Fast from Putting Yourself First: Attending to the needs of others before your own, even in small ways, creates a humility which follows Jesus’ teaching. 

Fast from Impatience: Ours is a fast-paced society that expects an instant response and immediate gratification. This can lead to irritability and anger. Take a deep breath and practice charity and kindness. 

These traditional Lenten works remind us that denial and struggle—taking up our cross each day—are essential dimensions of living as disciples of Jesus, ultimately bringing new life, and help us prepare for the greatest celebration of the liturgical year, Easter. What are you doing this Lent?

As we look at the 2022-2023 school year we find ourselves looking for an additional second grade teacher. Ms. Kaitlin Gleason will be moving to fourth grade to teach with Mrs. Parks. Mrs. Betsy Navarrette will be moving to second grade. The hiring of an additional teacher is necessary because we will have two classes of each in second and fourth grades for next year. The job has been posted on the Archdiocesan website.
