Student Mental Health
Boone County Mental Health Coalition
One of the many ways our district guides prevention efforts for our students is by partnering with the Boone County Schools Mental Health Coalition. In 2015, Hallsville was one of six Boone County School Districts, in partnership with MU, to receive funding from the Children’s Services Tax Fund to help support the social and emotional health of our students. This partnership, referred to as the Boone County Schools Mental Health Coalition, was able to hire several school mental health professionals to work in our schools. The Coalition promotes students' social and emotional health and seeks to develop positive peer and adult relationships, effective problem-solving and social skills, as well as successful coping strategies for students.
Hallsville students in grades 3 through 12 will again complete a brief mental health student checklist three times this school year. The checklist will ask students about their experiences with peers, their emotions, and social behavior. Once needs are identified in each school, coordinators will provide support through Tier 2 and 3 interventions aimed at assisting students with executive functioning and self-regulation, individualized counseling, and professional development to staff on best practices around mental health.
Hallsville Primary principal, Karen Jimerson, states, “Nurturing the development of children encompasses a wide spectrum of skills, and there are times when the needs of a child are outside the realm of an educator's expertise. Our partnership with the Boone County Mental Health Coalition gives us the opportunity to provide a much needed layer of support for many of our students. The social/emotional development of our young learners is a key factor in their success not only in school but also in life. Our work with the coalition helps us identify and address serious challenges our children face, and it gives us a clearer understanding of how to reach and teach each child.”

Rude, Mean, or Bullying?
What is bullying?
Our counselors and teachers provide lessons on bullying throughout the school year and are trained to recognize signs of bullying. School staff members respond immediately when witnessing aggression or bullying, referring the aggressor for discipline or services and counseling the victim. Our staff also utilizes consistent language to support our students in difficult situations: rude, mean, or bullying.
When students visit our offices, we ask many questions to comfort, support and guide them to a safe solution for all involved. One of the concepts often discussed is, "What is bullying?" Below is a poster that you may see hanging around our buildings.
A goal for our district is to provide a student-focused environment where students are able to focus on academic learning. In addition, the District is committed to maintaining a learning and working environment free of any form of bullying or intimidation. Bullying is strictly prohibited on school grounds, or school time, at a school sponsored activity or in a school related context. Students are encouraged to report any incident of bullying which they have witnessed or incurred, by contacting their building principal. Hallsville Fine Art Department to Perform Newsies
Newsies forever, second to none.
One for all, & all for one.
The Hallsville Fine Arts Department is excited to announce Disney’s
Newsies
as
its fall musical performance. Hallsville is the first high school in mid-Missouri to be granted the rights to this show, and we are excited to showcase the amazing talent of our students. This production is based on the 1992 musical film Newsies, which was inspired by real-life Newsboys Strike in 1899 in New York City. Auditions were held last week, and rehearsals have already started!

HHS Dual Credit
Over 70 students enrolled
Seventy-four Hallsville High School students recently enrolled in dual credit classes for the fall semester through our partnership with Central Methodist University. Dual Credit classes through CMU are taught on our campus by our certified staff, Mrs. Christine McMulllin, Mrs. Melissa Hough, and Mr. Matt Heet. Each class allows students to earn both college-level and high school course credit. For the fall semester, 6 dual credit classes are offered, with additional classes being offered during the spring. CMU dual credit courses are available to juniors and seniors with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. The cost for students is $80 per credit hour (most courses are 3 hours), with HHS covering the cost of book fees.
In addition to our partnership with CMU, students also have the opportunity to take dual credit classes online through MACC. These courses are taught online by area educators via an online portal, and students may request an “Online Studies” hour from their school counselor.

Board of Education
Monday, September 16
The regular monthly meeting of the Hallsville R-IV Board of Education is scheduled for Monday, September 16 in HHS Room 222. During the board meeting, individual members of the Board of Education and the Superintendent are regular participants in an open public meeting. Other individuals, most frequently administrators and employees of the District, may be scheduled to make presentations as indicated on the agenda.

The school and the Hallsville Community Development Association have partnered to offer the parade on Saturday, September 28 at 9:00 a.m. After the parade, everyone is welcome to eat lunch at the fairgrounds and enjoy the

Hallsville Youth Opportunities & Events
On Sunday, September 22, join the City of Hallsville for their 2nd Annual Team Up to Clean Up event. Volunteers are needed to help pick up trash and clean up Tribble Park. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Tribble Park at 9:45 a.m. for their assignment.
Are you interested in joining the Hallsville Go-Getters 4-H Club or Clover Kids? Come out to the Hallsville Fairgrounds on Monday, October 7 at 6:30 p.m. to learn more. Hallsville 4-H is open to students ages 8-18. Students must be 8 years of age by January 1, 2020. Clover Kids is open to students ages 5-7.
Girls in grades 2-5 are invited to bring someone special to the 3rd Annual "Light of My Life" dance hosted by the Varsity Cheerleaders on Sunday, September 15. Grab your cowboy boots and step out for a great night of food and dancing.
Join the Orr Street Studios for their Second Saturdays for Kids! On Saturday, October 12, kids ages 5-15 can journey into space and explore art, music, and more. This event is free to the community.

Upcoming Community Events
Join the Hallsville Optimist for their 1st Annual Co-Ed Kickball tournament October 18, 19, & 20! Adults and students in grades 9-12 are invited to create teams of 8-12 players. Money raised will go towards a new baseball scoreboard.
The DBRL Bookmobile is back to work after being out of commission for a while! You can visit the Bookmobile on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month at City Hall from 1:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. For new families to our district, you can also reserve and pick-up books from the Library-To-Go Lockers located at Prengers.
The Hallsville Food Pantry takes place the fourth Tuesday of each month from 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at the Hallsville Baptist Church. Food is provided at no cost for families in need. Please see the above link for what to bring. Dates for each month are also posted on the district’s calendar which can be found online
