We are a 'phone free campus' until 2:35 p.m. Any of the items above, highlighted in
black that are visible before 2:35 p.m. (and are not a part of a class assignment) will be taken and the PARENT will have to come to school to collect the item.
Our Mass of the Holy Spirit on Tuesday, August 20th was an occasion of reverence and joy as we prayed for each other at the start of the new school year.
After the Liturgy we had a brief ceremony in which we unfurled our first
State Championship Banners in our Bishop Scanlon Gymnasium; Baseball in 2018, Boys' Basketball in 2019.
Our second school-wide prayer service will be on Monday, September 30th, the Feast Day of Saint Jerome who translated the Bible. After it we will recognize those students in each grade who last year earned an academic average that has them ranked First in Merit, Second in Merit, or Third in Merit.
If you have been on campus you have seen the many safety and security improvements started during the summer and nearing completion. Most of these improvements dealt with safety and security concerns related to the non-Damien Memorial School Community.
We are now at the point of looking at safety and security with a focus on inside the school dealing with eliminating the need for students to carry large sums of money and with the proper preparation of food served in the cafeteria.
Soon we will have a
point of service program in the cafeteria by which your student will be able to charge lunch by scanning the ID cards and funds will be withdrawn from an account into which you have front loaded money to cover lunch for a period of time. This does away with the need to bring money to school. This program also allows you, as parent, to see what your student is having for lunch.
Start date and instructions will be forthcoming once the system is in place and tested.
Food preparation, cleanliness in which it is done, the temperature at which it is prepared are on-going concerns that grow in meaning as the equipment used ages.
We await delivery of all new kitchen appliances for our cafeteria. One weekend, very soon, we will remove all the equipment that is over 40 years old, rehab the floor and overall environment, and install brand new, state of the art kitchen appliances.
In closing, I want to thank you, the parents and guardians of our 706 students, for the privilege of working with you in helping your sons and daughters become the persons they, and their God, want them to be.
