Los Altos Rolls Out Phased Reopening of Recreation Facilities
After a 14-month halt on in-person programming and events due to COVID-19, the Recreation Department will start taking steps to reopen its doors to the community. The detailed 'Phased Opening Plan', presented to the City Council in April, listed possible start dates for classes, camps, and facility reservations as well as unveiling the new state-of-the-art Los Altos Community Center. The Council supported the recommendation, directing staff to move forward with the projected schedule as follows:

  • Summer 2021: Completion of the Los Altos Community Center construction
  • August 2021: Allow facility rentals for in-person gatherings
  • October 2021: Grand Opening of the Los Altos Community Center and the return of in-person special events

Preventing Storm Drain Pollution
Did you know that storm drains travel directly from streets, gutters, and paved surfaces to local waterways? When the water used in cleaning activities enters storm drains, it can severely harm wildlife. Allowing pollutants to enter storm drains is prohibited by local, state, and federal laws. So, how can you prevent storm drain pollution? Dry methods like sweeping safely clean outside surfaces. However, if you hire power washing services, ensure they are compliant with environmental regulations by choosing a certified Bay Area Stormwater Management Agencies Association (BASMAA) provider.
