Dear Fellow OA Member:
Desire.
The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop eating compulsively.* Yup, that's all that is needed to "join" Overeaters Anonymous. For this, I am grateful. It is the common thread that ties us together. Peel everything else away - color, ethnicity, job, married or single, money, religion, even weight and abstinence, and what remains is our mutual desire to stop eating compulsively.
Desire is defined as a strong feeling of wanting to have something or wishing for something to happen. That desire, in this case simply to be abstinent, is at the very core of OA membership. How that plays out for each of us is uniquely our own. For me, I am glad there are no long lists of rules or things I must do to be a member. The ability to individually define what constitutes my recovery has, no matter what, given me a real sense of freedom. While our our plans (food and action), spirituality, step work, and level of participation may be different, our desire to stop eating compulsively is not.
My hand in yours,
*Tradition 3.

Service: How strong is your meeting?
Why is it some meetings have a reputation for being strong and others might waver or even dwindle? What makes a good meeting? How can you be part of the solution?
OA offers two documents to help groups "take inventory" and one offers additional questions for individual members to answer. When was the last time you reviewed how helpful you are to the meetings you attend, particularly your home group? You might be pleasantly surprised when you answer the questions or you might be prompted to step up your game. OA is a program of attraction that begins at a member's first meeting.
*
Group Inventory Part I is the same as Strong Meeting Checklist.

Ocean & Bay Intergroup to be
represented at OA WSBC 2016
The OA World Service Business Conference (WSBC) serves as the collective conscience of the fellowship of Overeaters Anonymous. The week-long business conference is held every spring in Albuquerque, NM. Global Delegates representing OA service bodies gather to:
- elect trustees
- amend bylaws
- adopt new business policies
- provide information on issues that affect OA
According to OA, "Each OA member, group and service body has a stake in Overeaters Anonymous. Conference is the one opportunity we have as 'shareholders' to come together and question, chart and steer the course of Overeaters Anonymous. It is also our obligation to report back to our service bodies and groups on the current state of OA and its direction for the future."
Thanks to a generous scholarship from Region 6, and the support of our Intergroup, I will be attending WSBC during the first week in May. The theme of this year's conference is "Responsibility - To Carry the Message." The workshops will focus on the Responsibility Pledge, abstinence, working all Twelve Steps, young people, strategic planning, and virtual services. I will meet delegates from around the world and have the opportunity to share my commitment to abstinence, recovery, and carrying OA's message. Throughout the week, we will make decisions that affect the entire fellowship of Overeaters Anonymous. We will elect trustees, learn how the business portion of OA works, and we will consider literature proposals to grant the Conference seal of approval. It is also my duty to participate on a committee while at WSBC and continue throughout the following year.
It is my privilege, as your delegate, to assure the future of OA through my participation and our collective group conscience.
In humble Service,
"As Always"
Kara

Next month will mark my 1 year of coming to OA and I still feel like I am new because I constantly learn new things and am still amazed by the gifts of hope and freedom that I've received since coming to program. Below are some tips that I've found helpful during this amazing journey.
TIP #1 BE HONEST
TIP#2 REACH OUT
TIP #3 COMMIT
Sincerely Grateful,
