Ohio State team visits Regional Office

In July, College of Education and Human Ecology Dean Donald Pope-Davis hosted a delegation from Ohio State to meet with GOHi and Addis Ababa University (AAU) leadership and discuss research and collaboration opportunities. The delegation included Vice Provost James L. Moore, along with other faculty and staff from the College of Education and Human Ecology (EHE), Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. While in Addis Ababa, the team presented at a Master Class on Research Methodology Capacity Building during the 2nd Higher Education Forum for Africa, Asia and Latin America. During the delegation's time in Addis Ababa, EHE Dean Pope-Davis and AAU Academic Vice President Emebet Mulugeta planted a sapling at the Botanical Gardens as part of Ethiopia's One Million Trees planting day.

8th Annual One Health Summer Institute wrap up

As the 2019 edition of the One Health Summer Institute draws to a close, we would like to thank our many partners who helped to make this year a success. We are committed to investing in people and meeting the world's challenges through sustained training and education capacity strengthening. The Office of International Affairs sponsors an annual international photography competition open to all Ohio State students, faculty, staff, visiting scholars and alumni. All photographs must be the original work of the entrant, of high quality and taken outside of the United States. Photographers are invited to submit one photo in each category: People, Places and Arts and Culture. The deadline is October 7 at 12 p.m.

Leishmaniasis vaccine clinical trial: Prestigious foundations support to advance research

Abhay Satoskar, MD, PhD, led a symposium on vector-borne diseases in August 2019 as part of the One Health Summer Institute in Ethiopia, hosted by Ohio State's Global One Health initiative. Dr. Satoskar and his team received major awards with partners from Japan who were also present at the symposium to continue work on a viable vaccine. Twelve million people worldwide are infected with some form of Leishmaniasis, many of them children who are among the most vulnerable to the parasitic infection.

Welcome Torao Yasunaga and Sagari Venkatesan

Torao Yasunaga, a junior accounting student at the Fisher College of Business, will be responsible for providing administrative and clerical support to Leah Reilly, GOHi's Business Manager. He previously held the student fiscal assistant position at Ohio Bioproducts Innovation Center in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences where he gained valuable knowledge of Ohio State fiscal policies and procedures and experience with various eSystems. Sagari Venkatesan is a third year undergraduate biochemistry student pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. She assists GOHi with projects in the Infectious Disease Molecular Epidemiology Laboratory in the College of Veterinary Medicine.
