Principal's Message

Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed a Christ-filled holiday season and is experiencing an exciting New Year. As we start the second half of the 2021-2022 school year, we are focused on many important activities related to the 2022-2023 school year including re-enrollment, new student registration, and the new academic calendar.

Details for re-enrollment for all current students will be sent to all current families on January 12.

Please look forward to this communication to be sent through an all school email. As we begin the re-enrollment process at Guardian Angels, I strongly encourage families to apply for tuition assistance through the Catholic Education Foundation. This needs-based scholarship was a major piece to the One Faith, One Hope, One Love campaign from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. A flyer with additional details can be found here. All families who plan to apply for financial assistance from Guardian Angels must first apply for assistance from this source.

Preschool and pre-kindergarten registration will open to current Guardian Angels School and Parish families with new students on Monday, January 12th. We absolutely expect all preschool and pre-kindergarten classes to fill again this year. Current GA school and parish families have first priority in registering and re-enrolling but we recommend completing the process as soon as possible to ensure a spot. Any remaining spots in preschool/pre-kindergarten registration will open to the entire community on January 30.

I look forward to the return of all our angels for the 2022-2023 school year!

God bless,

Corey

Health/COVID Update

The COVID Planning Committee met yesterday to discuss a policy recommendation to present to the Education Board next week. A communication will be sent on Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning with details on our plan. Thank you for your continued support of our polices which have guided us throughout the pandemic.

Recently, the Ohio Department of Health adopted new guidelines from the CDC on the length of quarantine needed for positive cases and exposures. Under the new guidelines, a 5-day option is now given. During our COVID Planning Committee meeting, we adopted this shortened quarantine, effective immediately. Details for this can be found by the following this link. Guidance is changing along with this virus. We will do our best to keep the most recent version posted on our website.

Registration For 2022-2023

Its time to start thinking about registering for the 2022-2023 school year! Registration for current families and parishioners will open on January 12. Families with students currently enrolled in Guardian Angels School will receive an email for each of their currently enrolled children around 11:00am on January 12th. This link will guide parents to their PlusPortals login and allow parents to complete registration for their currently enrolled students. If you do not have an active PlusPortals account, please email Stephanie Woodall to have your account activated.

Any student who is a sibling of current GA students, or a current GA parishioner will also be able to register at this time. Families of those students (not currently enrolled at GA) will utilize the link posted on the homepage of our school website, when registration officially opens.

On the Friday following the completion of your registration form, you will receive an email from [email protected] regarding your registration fee. Please note, registrations are not complete until all fees are submitted to the business office.

Lunch Volunteers Needed For January

2022 is here! Our January Volunteer signups for the Cafeteria are up and running. We currently have no volunteers for the next 2 weeks and very few volunteers for the rest of the month. Can you share time in your schedule to help? If the answer is yes, click here to choose a day, or two, to volunteer. Our volunteers are so very important to helping our lunch routines run smoothly. Please consider sharing some time with our angels in the cafeteria.

Join Our Green Team!

Guardian Angels would like to begin transitioning to becoming a more sustainable school. We will be forming a Green Team and are looking for parents, teachers and students who are interested in making their school more eco-friendly to join our team of changemakers! This is a great opportunity for parents to get involved with their children in creating positive changes for our community together. Please email Meghan Robson if you or your child are interested in joining our team!

Our 1st meeting will be Thursday, January 13th at 5:30pm in the cafeteria.

Track & Field Option This Spring

Guardian Angels Boosters are excited to announce a new sports offering in Spring 2022. GA will sponsor track and field teams this spring season that will last from late March to mid-May. Boys and girls from grades K through 8 are invited to join and compete in various sprints, distance, relays and field events.  Time commitment will be 1 to 2 practices a week (younger grades 1 practice, older grades 2 practices) held at Nagel Middle School, with roughly 5 meets that last about 2-2.5 hours on Saturdays.

The teams that are available are K-2nd (co-ed), 3rd & 4th , 5th & 6th, and 7th & 8th (with separate teams for boys and girls other than K-2). Different ages compete in different events including, 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m runs, 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 relays and High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put (softball throw for K-2nd) & Discus, so there is something for everyone!

Already playing a spring sport? No problem! We encourage multi-sport athletes, and are extremely flexible to accommodate other sports schedules. Attend the practices or meets that you are able, as we welcome any participation and skill level.

We are in the process of compiling teams, coaches, equipment, and uniforms, so in order to get a rough head count, please email Sarah Lewis if your children are interested in participating or you have interest in coaching.

Thanks so much, and hope to see you in the spring!

Fathers Team Meeting This Friday

Join the GA Fathers Team this Friday, January 7th, at 6:05am to discuss this week’s topic, urrendering Control of Our Lives to God”  We have all heard the phrase “Let go and let God”. As Christians it seems like this should be a simple task. Then why do we tend to want to be in control and rely on our own understanding of things, rather than trusting that God’s ways are truly better?  No preparation is required. Just show up and join in the conversation...or just observe. Join us for this discussion in person in the Undercroft (Conference Room B), or by Zoom, this Friday at 6:05am. Contact us at [email protected] for the zoom information, or to get on the GA Fathers Team email distribution.

Youth Group First Friday Meeting (Grades 5-8)

Join the parish youth group as we gather grades 5-8 on Friday, January 7th from 5:00-7:00pm. This month we will be continuing our theme of Back to Basics" as we look at the great Mother of God: Mary! This month is dedicated to her maternal protection over all of us, and we will have games, snacks and activities! Come join us and make a new friend! If you are not currently receiving Youth Ministry updates and would like to be added to our list, or have any other questions, please email Bradley Barnes.

Students are asked to bring in two dozen cookies, brownies, or rice krispie bars on their classroom's designated day. They do need to be bagged, two treats per bag. All 2nd grade classes are responsible for the next donation on Monday, January 10th. Donations of juice boxes and prepackaged snacks are also needed. complete schedule for the school year is attached

Attendance Line

If your child will be absent or late to school, please call the main school office by 8:00 each morning. We recently upgraded our telephone system. In doing so, we removed the former “attendance line.” All parents needing to report their child absent or late to school should call our Office Assistant, Melissa Boston, using the main school phone number - 624-3141.

Christian Service Program - Faith in Action

The purpose of the Christian Service Program is to enhance the religion curriculum at Guardian Angels Church. It is the duty of all Christians to reach out in service to those around them. Christ asks us to be His hands and feet on earth, keeping His mission of reaching out to those in need alive. The students will complete their service within the following settings: at home, the parish community/school and the community at-large. This outreach may be completed individually, with a partner, or in a group.

This program will focus more on the meaning of the actual service opportunities rather than completing a prescribed amount of time. You will choose activities for each component—service to your family, service to your school/parish and service to the poor and vulnerable in our community. There is no minimum requirement of hours to complete. Grades 1-3 are required to complete at least 2 activities for each component; grades 4-8 at least 3 for each. You are certainly encouraged to complete more! See your Religion teacher, Mrs. Froehlich, or the parish website for a list of suggested activities and the log sheet.

Questions? Contact Kay Froehlich, Director of Religious Education, for more information.
