Special COVID-19 Edition: April, 2020

A Diffi cult Decision:
AHP Cancels 2020 Equine Media Conference
COVID-19 virus has had unexpected and unprecedented affects on the equine industry, including equine media. The AHP Board of Directors announced last week that it will be cancelling the 2020 Equine Media Conference scheduled for May 29-31 in Lexington, Kentucky.

Although it's a disappointment since AHP is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the board of directors recognizes that this is the best decision for our membership and to do our part in halting the spread of the virus. And we are looking ahead to the 2021 conference in Irving, Texas on May 20-22 and getting a head start on planning.

Here are a few important notices, and you can read more here .

Host Hotel: The Griffin Gate Marriott Resort & Spa in Lexington has cancelled all guest room reservations listed in the AHP group block. Members who don’t receive a confirmation of cancellation from the hotel by April 30 should contact Chris Brune .

Conference Registration: Members who have prepaid their conference registration fee as of March 31, 2020, may select one of two options. Please contact Chris Brune with your choice by May 31, 2020.

> Option 1 : Retain registration payment for the special 50th Anniversary special rate for the 2021 AHP Equine Media Conference in Texas.
> Option 2 : Receive a full payment refund for the 2020 AHP Equine Media Conference. Submit refund request to Chris Brune by May 31, 2020.
  > Bonus! AHP members may register online for the 2021 AHP Equine Media Conference in Texas at the 50th Anniversary special rate until May 31, 2020. Online registration is available on the AHP website.

Awards Presentations: Recognizing AHP award winners is important to our members and the equine media industry. Therefore, the 2020 awards programs will continue as scheduled; however, there will not be a live presentation of the winners. AHP members are encouraged to spread the news via their media outlets.

Horses and media give AHP purpose, but the heart of the organization is our community of friends and professionals supporting each other. Our industry will make it through this difficult time and come back stronger than ever if we all do our part. If we can do anything to help, please let us know. Stay home, be safe and let's keep #equinemediastrong.
50th Anniversary Celebration Continues
The 2020 pandemic may have cancelled the American Horse Publications 50th Anniversary conference in Lexington, but it didn't erase 50 years of equine media history.

We thank the 50th Anniversary Committee, spearheaded by Emily Koenig, for their hard work developing ways to honor the association.

During the remainder of 2020, AHP will continue its 50th Anniversary celebration with additional content on the website and social media.

Financial Relief Measures

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act went into effect this month, offering financial assistance programs to qualified small businesses, independent contractors, sole proprietors and nonprofits to keep people employed and businesses afloat for a few months.

Small businesses and freelancers are taking advantage
of financial relief programs under the CARE Act.

Here are some quick links to determine eligibility, review terms and apply. We recommend calling your financial advisor immediately and start gathering required documents, as there is a limit on funding and many applicants.
