30th Sunday in Ordinary Time
"I love you, Lord, my strength."
Weekly message from Fr. Mike
On the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the Holy Father, Pope Francis, released the third encyclical letter of his papacy entitled Fratelli Tutti, on fraternity and social friendship. As with Laudato Si’, the title is an Italian quotation of the pope’s saintly namesake, translated as “brothers and sisters all.” The 287-paragraph document is a brisk walking-tour of Pope Francis’s social teaching and well worth a read. In this time of social distancing, the Holy Father reminds us that we ought to love our brothers and sisters as much when they are far away as when we are with them.

The encyclical articulates in eight chapters a call for all human persons to recognize and live out our common fraternity. It starts with a consideration of what is holding humanity back from the development of universal fraternity and moves to an expression of hope that peace and unity will be achieved through dialogue among peoples of faith.

Brendan Gottschall, SJ gives a summary of the eight chapters that you can reach on the link below. I will be placing a chapter of Brendan Gottschall’s summary in the upcoming Parish News.

Shoe Drive update
Thank you to anyone who participated in the shoe drive. We were able to collect 189 pairs of shoes and all of them will be greatly appreciated to great extent!

In countries like Haiti and Honduras they can provide food, shelter and education for a family for 3 months! Donations have been sent in and will be closed from this point on. Thank you!
Scrip program update
After a pandemic hiatus, Scrip cards are back!

Scrip gift cards will again be sold after all masses in the library. The church receives a percentage of the value of each card and funds go toward various special projects at Holy Spirit. Stop by to pick up a few cards for your after-church meal outing, a last-minute gift, or to get a head start on your holiday shopping (gift cards make great stocking stuffers). We have numerous options on hand, and can order others by request.

Don't forget, you can also purchase scrip cards directly from their new app. Just click the image to the right to get started.
