Line 3 Pipeline Dealt Another Delay
The Minnesota Department of Commerce this week appealed the Public Utility Commission's (PUC) decision earlier this year to approve the Line 3 Pipeline. Enbridge Energy's proposal to replace a deteriorating pipeline in northern Minnesota with a new pipe along a different route has been in the regulatory and appeals process at the State for the last six years. The Commerce Department contends that Enbridge didn't introduce a long-term demand forecast when the PUC issued the certificate of need, even though the PUC rejected arguments months ago from project opponents that they should weigh new evidence that has emerged since they first approved the pipeline in 2018.
The pipeline replacement is estimated to provide 4,000 jobs over the 6-9 month construction timeline. The company still needs more permits from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Minneapolis Fed Free Webinar to Discuss Construction Sector Conditions
 The Minneapolis Fed regularly gathers survey data from construction firms throughout the Ninth District to track pandemic effects on individual companies and the broader sector.
The most recent survey of construction firms, closed in late July, received almost 650 responses from a wide range of firms in each of the six states in the Ninth District, thanks to the help of more than 30 construction and trade organizations across the District.

 4 ways to build around and under an active bridge structure in the heart of Chicago
The Wolf Point property was the subject of many development proposals over the years. Finally, plans emerged for the $1 billion project to be constructed on the 3.9-acre site on the north east side of the Chicago River. The catch? The development would start with construction of a 5,600-square-foot (225' x 25') garage underneath an existing bridge structure that needed to remain open at all times. Learn more

2020 AGC of America Workforce Survey
The construction industry has experienced some very significant and sudden changes during the past few months that have led to dramatic changes in demand for work and the need for new workers.
AGC of America is asking construction firms to take a few minutes to complete the following workforce survey.
