TO BRIGHTEN YOUR DAY
A Devotional Thought by Lois Coady

Well, we are 6 months into the U.S. outbreak of what we know today as a worldwide pandemic, something that never even crossed my mind as a reality I would experience in my lifetime. Life has been very different since mid-March for all of us.

Prior to this year, my movement had never been restricted by anyone other than my parents as a child. I felt safe going to the grocery store or the doctor’s office. I have never before had to be so concerned about the health of the other people in my life; could I pass COVID-19 on to them or them to me? Masks were something I wore only at a costume party instead of a part of daily attire. I have washed my hands “for 20 seconds” so much I am surprised I still have skin on them. And, never in my work history has a slight fever one day on a weekend kept me home from work for 3 days while awaiting test results (by God's grace, it was negative).

However, I sure have been reminded of God’s faithfulness during this time and to me that is one great benefit of this moment in time. God has faithfully protected our church family, a “high risk” group, as well as Calvin and my family. Even our daughter, who is a Public Defender working with clients in the Sacramento County jail and courts, has continued to test negative! That is an amazing testament to God’s faithfulness.

God’s promises have been my stronghold! Here are a few of the promises that keep me going:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. I Peter 1:13

Yes, our God is faithful and will continue to be faithful just as He has been before. I am comforted by the fact that He never changes; He is the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Before the pandemic, during the pandemic, and ultimately after the pandemic God has already overcome. God is good!
