36th High School Scholarship Award Banquet

On Sunday, November 20th, the Association of Chinese Americans held its 36th High School Scholarship Award Banquet at the Chinese Community Center. Forty-one local Chinese American high school senior students, who will enter college next year, were recognized. There were around 100 people in attendance, which included the honorees, honoree’s families, scholarship sponsors, and ACA board and staff members.

美华协会第36届高中优秀毕业生表扬暨奖学金颁奖典礼于10月20隆重及圆满举行!包括今年获选，表现出色的学生，家长，奖学金赞助者，美华奖学金委员会以及美华职员近百人参与了盛会，与接受表扬的学生分享了光荣，喜悦的一刻。

Over the past 36 years, Association of Chinese Americans has recognized over 700 local outstanding high school students and awarded more than 250 scholarships to the total of $170,000. All donations from sponsors are 100% distributed to the winning students. The Association of Chinese Americans is proud to have this long history of meaningful youth education-related program and deeply believe this year by year investments are worthy and expect very positive impacts on our next generations for a greater cause.

美华高中生奖学金项目有长达36年的历史，多年来累积表扬超过700位本地学生，提供超过250笔总金额超过17万美元的奖学金。一如以往，经过层层的书面申请材料审核与评估面试，今年共计有41位品学兼优的高中毕业生获得表扬，其中并有17位获得不同名目，金额从$ 500到$ 1000不等的各项奖学金。

As the President of the ACA and the chairman of the scholarship committee, Shenlin Chen said in the opening speech, after four years of hard work, the students who received the praises have outstanding results, and deserve to be grateful for themselves and their parents. No matter where they go in the future, this moment of glory tonight will strengthen their commitment to achievement and self-satisfaction.

誠如美華協會會長兼獎學金委員會主席陳聖玲開場談話所言，接受的表揚的學生經過四年的努力，不論課内課外都有亮眼的成績，值得自己和父母們感到光榮，而除了在大學申請書上增添一項榮譽，未來不論到哪裏，希望今晚這榮耀的一刻能更催化，堅固他們對自我要求所做下的承諾。

The main speaker of the evening was Henry Tanaka, retired dean of the School of Art, Design and Humanities at Oakland Community College. In his speech, he used his own experience of growing up in Hawaii to encourage students to develop themselves, reach out to people, develop their Intellectual Quotient , Emotional Intelligence, Self-Cognition and consider the non-traditional educational learning paths, Tanaka is currently a member of the Michigan Asia Pacific American Affairs Commission.

當晚主要講員是曾任Oakland Community College藝術，設計，人文學院教務主任的Henry Tanaka，他演講中以自身在夏威夷成長學習的經歷爲例，鼓勵學生要多面向的發展自己，接觸人群，跳脫以往學業成就挂帥的教育學習思維，智商，情商和自我認知和發展齊頭并進。Tanaka目前也是密西根州長亞太事務委員會的委員之一。

A whole heartful appreciation to our passionate scholarship donors 美华协会每年都要为所提供的几项奖学金项目筹款，也特别感谢所有以金钱支持这个意义久远项目的捐赠者。
