As the academic year comes to an end, the International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) team at the Center for Global Programs & Services (CGPS) writes to extend our best wishes and offer a few helpful reminders to both graduating and returning students. As always, we invite you to contact our office anytime you have questions or concerns about your immigration status and experience at UD. As you can see in this article featuring UD, working with your immigration advisor is imperative to maintaining your status in the U.S.

For those of you in the U.S.: If you are planning to travel abroad this summer, now is the time to make sure you have your immigration documents in order. Before you travel, please make sure to read our Summer Travel Reminders. 

It is important to remember that the U.S. government defines “work” as any activity that someone would normally be paid to perform. Even if you are not being paid, you still may need authorization. Off-campus businesses near UD campus, such as restaurants and stores on Main Street are not considered on-campus employment. Also, employment with on-campus commercial firms which do not provide direct student services are not deemed on-campus employment. Always check with CGPS before accepting any employment whether it's on or off campus, and even if it is unpaid or a “volunteer” position. CGPS will also host virtual immigration sessions this summer to help address any immigration-related questions you have, whether you’re in the U.S. or abroad.

If you are part of a registered student organization that will be hosting events this summer, we’re happy to help promote your events! Email your organization’s summer calendar to oissprograms@udel.edu and we can put the information in our newsletter and/or on social media.

Please note that our office, like many other University offices, will close on Monday, May 31 for Memorial Day; Friday, June 18 for Juneteenth; and Monday, July 5 for Independence Day. In all of these cases we will open the following business day at 8 a.m. If you have an emergency during non-business hours, call (302) 831-2222.
