The Skokie School Home Scoop

Dear Skokie Community,

The week of "back to school" is upon us, and in a way in which we never imagined we would be starting a school year. I am committed to keeping our school community safe this year as we acclimate to our hybrid model and all of the new routines and procedures that will come along with being on campus during a pandemic. Your compassion and patience are greatly appreciated as we re-imagine school and completely shift the way in which we operate on a daily basis.

With that, I would like to share my appreciation for the gratitude that many of you have expressed and shared as you ask for clarification or support with our new structure and routines. Please know that the Skokie office staff are all great resources for information:

Kath Horton, Administrative Assistant
Carol Zalinski, Front Entrance Monitor

Mr. Kotvis, our assistant principal, is in the process of learning all about Skokie and our community, and is anxious to meet the students this week. We are all here to help!

Meet and Greets, School Supplies, and iPads
I know many of you are anxiously awaiting information about iPad pick up, especially since I mentioned it in my video last week! Thank you for your patience and I apologize if I created any panic in students who wondered how they would get their hands on an iPad by day one. This is the perfect opportunity to let everyone know that we recognize that everything is out of the ordinary this year and it might take some extra time for students to have the right supplies, logins, routines, etc. We are all in this together and will be patient and compassionate as we figure it out.

On this note, we are going to blend iPad pick, supply pick up for those of you who were unable to make it on Friday, and the Meet and Greets into one event. Please plan to drive to the meet and greet for safety reasons and ease of pick-up. Writing your child's name on a piece of paper displayed in the window will help. After you greet your teachers, a member of our staff will set your child's iPad and supply kit (if applicable) into the trunk of your car.  Click here to view the details of the Meet and Greet.

Supply Suggestion for this Year
One of the optional supplies on the school supply list this year was a Logitech Crayon or Apple Pencil. Given the amount of work that will be done on iPads this year, we strongly encourage families to provide one of these styluses for your child.  The Logitech crayon is $59 or the Apple pencil is $89. You can purchase them for a discount using this link: https://winnetka.revtrak.net/Technology/

Parent Handbooks for Various Technologies
Please click here to access a variety of parent handbooks we have put together to help parents learn about the various platforms we will be using as a school this year. Skokie parents should plan to review the Schoology and Zoom handbooks, as a top priority.

CrisisGo App: Daily Self Certification
Please note that the district will be using CrisisGo to track student health information this year. Each day, we are asking parents to support students in self-certifying that they are COVID-19 symptom free and have a temperature below 100.4 degrees. You can download this app to your phone or iPad, or login through a browser on your computer. You might want to consider adding a daily calendar reminder so that you can self-certify your child each morning/afternoon before sending him or her to school. Students who are not cleared to enter the building through CrisisGo upon arrival to school will need to self-certify with the school nurse and may delay their timeliness to class. You will be receiving more information from the district regarding this topic, but I wanted to be sure you understood how it works.

Health and Safety Pledge: Complete by Thursday
Please ensure that you have completed the district Health and Safety Pledge prior to students' first day of school on Thursday.

Take care,

Betty Weir                    Louis Kotvis
Principal                       Assistant Principal
