Happy New Year!

If you are like me, you may have been almost certain that the tide would turn when 2021 ended. You may have thought that we surely would be well past the age of COVID-19, and thing one and thing two, also known as the Delta and Omicron variants.

However, kicking them to the curb may take a bit longer. We must persevere and look forward to things improving.

It is my thought that we have the fortitude, inspiration, and determination to keep going, and not lose our stride. You stuck with the Library System during the pandemic and helped us to reach record levels of virtual program attendance; and you did not let business by curbside service keep you away from the Library. The services were reduced for a time; yet, you stayed with us and for that we continue to say, thank you.
The year of 2022 can be a landmark year for all of us; although it may be that we have to continue to pivot, as we find ourselves doing most days. Some of us may decide to take up new hobbies; call and talk to family and friends more often; and just sit awhile, quietly contemplating our next move.
ROSWELL READS 2022 HAS SELECTED LAURA MORELLI
If MLK Day and Black History Month have you interested in local history, be sure to check out all Fulton County Library System has to offer online to expand your knowledge of Atlanta (and Georgia's) past!

From the first Native Americans that lived in your home town to the current entry in World Book Encyclopedia Online for Georgia, the online collection offered by FulcoLibrary is one of the best in the state. Our collections include recent history that you may have missed or forgotten. Learn about great Supreme Court cases from Georgia that have affected the nation like Furman v. Georgia in 1972 with this lesson from The Great Courses or search our many online newspaper resources for reactions and commentary to more recent decisions like 2020's Bostock v. Clayton County. You can dig even deeper into primary resources for local history at the Auburn Avenue Research Library, which is a nationally important center for historians - drop in during business hours to see their publicly available collections on the first floor, or make an appointment to see rare materials!
In more of an artistic mood? Explore our collection of downloadable works by local authors on Overdrive and the Libby app, or watch local independent films like Dekalb Elementary on Kanopy.

Why not make your own contribution to documenting local history by making a Journal of Family Life with this tutorial from Creative Bug? You can listen to compositions by local musicians on Freegawhile crafting your household record of what will one day be local history.
