Save Pure Michigan
The travel and tourism industry is critical to our economy and workforce. Travel is the second-largest industry in Michigan, supporting more than 346,000 good jobs across the state. However, this healthy economic sector is at risk if Pure Michigan, the state’s destination promotion agency, is defunded in November.

We Need Your Help to Save Pure Michigan. Together, we can tell Governor Whitmer to save Pure Michigan so it can keep delivering for the state. Here’s how you can help:
  • Use our Action Alert to send an email directly to Governor Whitmer telling her to save Pure Michigan. Our customizable, pre-drafted email makes it simple.
  • Join the conversation on social media using the hashtag #SavePureMichigan, highlighting the many ways travel and tourism is critical to you, your business and the state’s economy.

Hospital Receives Grant Towards Specialized Lab Equipment
T he Charlevoix County Community Foundation has generously awarded Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital $5,000 toward the purchase of a glycohemoglobin analyzer, a specialized piece of lab equipment which measures A1C levels.

The A1C test is used to diagnose diabetes and is also used regularly for diabetic or prediabetic patients to assess whether their levels are staying within the appropriate range. A1C analysis indicates a person’s average blood sugar level over the previous 2-3 months, allowing physicians to track trends and make appropriate changes in therapy. For the millions of people with diabetes, maintaining near-normal glucose levels is vital for reducing or slowing the complications of the disease. In one year, Charlevoix Hospital typically performs around 4,255 A1C tests for over 2,700 patients.

The Charlevoix County Community Foundation’s grant has enabled the hospital’s lab to be equipped with the most efficient equipment necessary to deliver accurate, speedy results for those patients relying on A1C analysis.

Oleson Foundation Awards Matching Grant to McLaren Northern MI
The Oleson Foundation presented a $25,000 check to the McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation for the first installment in a matching grant for the Building the Future of Health Care Capital Campaign. The second check for $25,000 will be distributed in January.

The Oleson Foundation wanted to support the construction project and liked the idea of offering a matching grant to inspire community giving. For every $1 received from an individual and designated in support of the Building the Future of Health Care project, the Oleson Foundation agreed to match up to $50,000. More than 150 people chose to contribute to the Foundation in response to the matching gift, donating a total of $72,121 toward the project. With the gift from the Oleson Foundation, the total raised equaled $122,121.

Construction for the project is underway. Steel beams are currently being placed to allow the structure to be enclosed by winter so that inside construction can continue. For more details about the project, and to learn how you can participate by making a donation, visit McLarenNorthernBuilds.org, or call 231-487-3500 to speak with someone from the Foundation.
