NIPFC Permanency Blast
April  2020

Greetings to All!

As a team we would like to extend hopes and wishes of  safety and  good health to everyone and their families. We understand that more than ever we show strength and resilience by staying united as community with the current world events. During this time of uncertainty and there have been a great deal of barriers arising but as we know there is creativity in staying connected with communities and families via online platforms. More than ever people have been creating fun ways to give to their communities whether it is free online workout classes, delivery services to the elderly, famous DJ's spinning beats to start  small dance party in living rooms, or re-configuring what it means to provide in person services. All little efforts matter and we are continuing to plug away at projects for that reason.

First, we are happy to announce  involvement in a project that will  provide opportunities for helping parents and children affected by the Government's Zero Tolerance Policy at the US-Mexico border. For more details, please read more in the articles below.

Don't forget to catch up on all of our Podcasts! There are 10 episodes of recorded conversations that dive into topics that need more national and international involvement. Stay tuned more episodes coming soon!

The NCCD blog recently posted a document that describes ideas from the NCCD Children's Research Center (CRC) for how to conduct safety assessment and planning under current conditions. The suggestions provided can help service providers be creative and be aware of the expectations from local, state and federal policies.

Recently, the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University posted an article on "Stress and Resilience: How Toxic Stress Affects Us and What We Can Do About It". This article is more relevant today than ever before. Check out the video that provides a simple explanation of the symptoms we or the families we are connected to maybe experiencing.

There is an extension for proposals for organizations considering to present at the 2020 International Conference on Innovations in Family Engagement. Check out the flyer below to see the updated deadline!

Immigration Project

A few months ago, there was a historic court decision in a lawsuit against the federal government to halt the separation of families at the border. The lawsuit compelled the government to provide mental health services to address the trauma caused by the inhumane policies. As anticipated, the legal process continues and there have been a series of court filings regarding the court's decisions.
In the meantime, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)  notified Seneca Family of Agencies of their intent to create  the Immigration Project. The Immigration Project will implement the preliminary injunction issued by the court to provide services to immigrant families separated at the US-Mexico border as a result of the Government's Zero Tolerance Policy.  These services would include finding and connecting with all the families who were separated and reunified, assessing their interest and need for mental health services, and coordinating referrals to local mental health agencies.
Seneca Family of Agencies Search Services

This has  been a time of reconfiguration from in-person services and training to remote access platforms. As everyone has hustled to do their best work, we recognize that resources can be stretched and thinned. NIPFC provides search services that are  customized search reports for about half the price of any comparable services. Our expert search agents complete the searches using multiple data bases for you, your staff does not need to run inefficient searches that yield incomplete or confusing results, freeing up more time for your staff to begin contacting and engaging relatives. Check out the link below for more information on pricing, services and communication.

Step 1: Prepare to Meet

International Conference on
Innovations in Family Engagement.

Please consider applying to present at the International Conference on Innovations in Family Engagement Go to Call for Proposals
Deadline extended!!
Applications are Due Monday, April 13, 2020
Given that many people are currently addressing more immediate issues regarding the pandemic, we are extending the deadline for session proposals.

NEW DETAILS:

Undoubtedly, the COVID 19 pandemic has upended our personal and professional lives. As we all struggle to navigate a world with physical distancing and recraft how we work, the Kempe Center is contemplating how to convene the family engagement community at our annual conference.

As you know, we have a Call for Proposals out for our September 2020 Buffalo Conference, and we are looking for presenters who have experiences and expertise they want to share with the community.
We cannot host an in-person or virtual conference without you. Recognizing that many of us are tapped out, we are making it as easy as possible for you to submit your idea to us by April 13.

We have eliminated the 250-500 word abstract section of the online proposal form, making it easier to complete. Basically, your name, location, co-presenters, contact information, a title, a 150 word description and learning objectives are all we need.

Given the COVID 19 pandemic and the uncertainty that comes with it, please know that the Kempe Center team is still planning to hold the 2020 Innovations Conference, either in person in Buffalo, NY or virtually.

We look forward to remaining connected and supporting this community!
The Kempe Center, University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, is excited to announce the Call for Proposals for the International Conference on Innovations in Family
Engagement, September 29 - October 2, 2020, in Buffalo, New York. The conference encourages a focus on the effort being made through Differential Response, Family Group Decision Making and other family engagement approaches to achieve genuine partnership with families. This Call for Proposals has been created to seek applicants from across the U.S. and internationally to present on a range of topics.
You will find both the Call for Proposals and the Presenter's

Submission Form on Kempe's conference webpage.
