This week we are continuing our series of Quarter 1 results for our Fiscal Year 2021 by covering Business Attraction statistics.

From July through September, the Corridor had six ongoing large business projects with the potential to create 30-80 jobs and have a capital investment of up to $200 million.

The sources of these projects included the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA), Gazelle,ai, Community Venture Network (CVN), and site selector inquiries.

One project example is a micro-distillery looking to expand into a new location. Although the project ultimately was unsuccessful, the Corridor was able to learn a lot from the process. The project was introduced to the Corridor by Community Venture Network (CVN). CVN is a subscription-based program to connect growing small businesses based in the Twin Cities with rural Midwest communities.

Travel Iowa asked its social media audience for some of their favorite cookie stores across the state. Central Perk Coffeehouse in Estherville made the list as the only location in rural Iowa and one of only three in towns with less than 10,000 people.

The City of Storm Lake and Kading Properties of Urbandale announced a $17.5 million housing development. The development is planned to have 88 duplexes.

Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released their patient experience star ratings. Buena Vista Regional Medical Center (BVRMC) is one of only 13 hospitals in Iowa that received a 5-star rating based on a Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey.

The former White Drug building on the corner of 4th and Grand in Spencer will be the home of Grand Bridal. The new store will have bridal gowns, prom gowns, and mother-of-the-bride dresses.

Last week, the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) awarded Historic Preservation Tax Credits to 10 projects, including one in Storm Lake. The program provides state income tax credit to projects for rehabilitation of historic buildings.
