The Cornerstone
Pastor's Update
We enter into October already deep in our prayer for life for 40 days. The gift of life is always a miracle and always a gift from our heavenly Father. We as Catholic are always pro-life, from the baby in the womb to the elderly in care to the criminal in prison. While we have life, we have an opportunity to love and when we love we encounter our God and Father.

October is also a month of prayer and awareness against Domestic Violence. Every home should be a place and peace, love and joy but sadly because of sinful behavior it is not always so. If you or someone you know is suffering from this violence on your dignity as a child of God, please call 1-800-500-1119.

We also enter into our final month before our elections. Please take time to read “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, it can be found on www. usccb.org. Remember never to attack another person, for even those we disagree with on the most fundamental level is a child of God whom is loved by God. Be the peace maker this month remembering that the peacemaker is blessed.

October is also the month of the Holy Rosary, it is a beautiful time to enhance your family and spiritual life by praying the Rosary daily as a family,(there are pamphlets available in the office or just download the Laudate App). A continued thank you to all of our faithful parishioners who are giving of themselves and their treasures so that we can continue to proclaim the message of Jesus Christ to all who need to hear it.

Peace and Joy,
Fr. Dermot

Bereavement Ministry
If you happen to come to a funeral at St. Stephen a little early, you will notice some individuals quietly walking around the Sanctuary. That’s us, the members of the Bereavement Ministry. We’re preparing for the Funeral Mass, distributing tissue boxes, setting up tables and easels for pictures, and accepting floral arrangements. Other members are greeting people and directing them to the sign in book and prayer cards.

We’re ready to do everything that we can to assist the family and participate in the Funeral Mass, offering our prayers for the deceased.
The Bereavement Ministry is looking for new members that can help in many ways:

Funeral Mass Planners, Adult Altar Servers, Sacristans, EMHC, Readers, Greeters, and anyone who simply wants to pray.

By being the compassionate and loving hands and feet of Jesus, This nourishes our faith too.

If interested, please call the parish office at 813-689-4900 or email Bereavement@ststephencatholic.org.
