Dear Normandale Families,

On Friday, January 28th families can access student progress reports on Infinite Campus. Below is information to help you navigate your student’s progress report.

The key on the upper right hand corner of the report card briefly explains what the 1 to 4 scores mean. These scores do not equate to A, B, C, D grades, rather they are focused on the level of independence your child exhibits. A score of 1 indicates that your student has not met that outcome regardless of the level of support. A 2 indicates that your student can demonstrate proficiency when given support.

Additionally, a 3 indicates that your child is meeting the grade level expectation independently and consistently. Rarely are 4’s given, especially in academic areas, simply because a 3 indicates that your child is working independently at the grade level expectation. Please refer to the bottom of this article for a more detailed description of the 1 to 4 rubric.

Hopefully this information helps you better understand your student’s progress for the first half of the year.

  • Meets basic expectations at this time of year
  • Developing knowledge and understanding
  • Independently produces work of satisfactory quality, or work may be inconsistent in quality
  • Application of skills and strategies may be inconsistent or may be showing improvement

1 – Needs Improvement: Lacking expected progress towards standard

  • Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of concepts is emerging or not yet apparent
  • Below expectations at this time
  • Independently produces work of poor quality or needs assistance to produce adequate work
  • May be beginning to apply skills and strategies or need assistance in doing so

During the month of January, we are recruiting Host Families for the 2022-2023 school year!

THANK YOU to the 37 families who have already signed up to host next year!

The success of our Edina French Immersion program depends on having warm, welcoming host families for our amazing French Interns! Without French Interns, we could not sustain our position as a top immersion program.

To continue this momentum, it is critical we secure 62 Host Families by January 31st. With 62 Host Families, we can support 27 French Interns, meeting our ideal allocation of Interns across all schools:

Normandale French Immersion

K-2nd grade: 5 interns, 1 per class

3rd - 5th grade: 2 interns per grade

Valley View/EHS Extended French

Valley View: 3 interns

Edina High School: 3 interns

To learn more, check out our Rally Month hub on the Normandale PTO site.

Already know you want to host next year? Sign up now!

Hosting an intern is a one-semester commitment but the benefits are life-long!

Don't miss our third Rally Month theme day this Thursday 1/20: Wacky Day!

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR - COMING IN FEBRUARY

We are excited to have the Scholastic Book Fair return to Normandale this February! Our fair will take place Tuesday, February 8th and Wednesday, February 9th and we need volunteers to fill multiple roles to help make our fair successful! Please sign up to volunteer here.

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS - GET IN ON THE FUN!

Community Connections events are LIVE on our Membership Toolkit platform! There are many great events for parents and kids in all grades still open for participation. Winter is long; support French Immersion in the Edina Public Schools and delight your family with fun experiences!

LUNCHTIME VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We need 2 volunteers on Fridays to help serve hot lunch. Volunteers will need to be masked (please bring your own) and wear a hairnet (provided at school). You may have to do some light lifting (i.e. moving pans of food to the serving area).

Please sign up HERE if you are able to help!

We need volunteers EVERY DAY to supervise home lunch in the Normandale Auditorium. Please sign up HERE if you are able to help. Volunteers are what allows us to offer a separate space for home lunch students.
