A few important reminders from your School Nurse...
|
|
What should I tell the school?
It is important to let the school nurse or your student's teacher know if your child has the flu, pneumonia, bronchitis or other contagious illnesses.
How long should I stay home if I’m sick?
CDC recommends that you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or other necessities. Your fever should be gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine, such as Tylenol®. You should stay home from work, school, travel, shopping, social events, and public gatherings.
Take everyday preventive actions to stop the spread of germs.
Try to avoid close contact with people that are ill. If you are sick, limit contact with others as much as possible to keep from infecting others. After your fever is gone, stay home at least one day, without the use of fever reducing medications...Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread this way.
What are typical flu symptoms?
Flu symptoms include, fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some people may have diarrhea and vomiting.
Thank you for your attention to this important health issue!
Sincerely, Nurse Nelsson

Attendance Reminders & Tid Bits
|
|
- Parent Notes will excuse a student’s absence until they hit the maximum allowable absences (10 per SC law). After the maximum, their absence will be excused ONLY with a Medical Note that says the student had to be out the ENTIRE DAY for each day they miss. Please note that without a Parent Note or a Medical Note, the absence is considered UNEXCUSED. 3 consecutive unexcused absences is considered truant by SC law.
- Teachers are only required to give make-up work and/or tests if the absence is excused. If you have a medical note, please bring it in!
- Extended absences that are not medical must be pre-approved by Administration. Any absence over 2 days is considered extended. To review the entire attendance policy, click here for the Student Handbook.
- Our automated calling system has been working well! At 9:30am it begins informing parents if their student was marked absent.
- Thank you for your cooperation in getting your students to school on time!
- Please note that GCOM does active monitoring of students activity on any device that allows internet access to ensure the safety of all of our students.

Just a reminder that students MUST be in a navy blue polo with the logo on it at all times with khaki bottoms, unless in PE class (grades 4 & up).
Students in PE are expected to change into PE clothes for that period only.
Spirit wear is allowed on Fridays, and available to order from Fully Promoted (see below. Please note: The site for ordering from Fully Promoted will be down during the holidays and will be back up in January)
