What a Year! Summer Survival Kit
The 3R's of Summer Relax, Reflect, Renew
All of us have been through a lot this year, but between the ups and downs, we’ve become stronger as educators. Summer will soon be here, and what better way to rejuvenate our mindset than by prioritizing one of the 3Rs of Summer: Relax, Reflect, and Renew!

Relax - Think back to the last time you were relaxed. This could have possibly occurred a long, long time ago. After taking that deep breath and smiling over the memory of what it feels like to relax, you soon discover that relaxation allows your mind and body to become calm and in sync. This feeling enables you to think clearly and enjoy peacefulness.

Reflect - Reflect on the past school year. Take a moment and look closely at your mindset. How do you see things? How does it affect what you do every day and influence your actions? In what areas do you want to grow, learn and/or improve?

Renew - Looking forward to the new school year ahead; set priorities and focus on actions. Draft the desired action steps in making the new academic year even better than last year! What important, relevant, and purposeful tools could be used to increase student outcomes?
Summer Learning & You!
Self-Study Guide for Evidence-Based Coaching for Literacy: PreK–Grade 12
States and school districts across the country are implementing large-scale literacy initiatives that depend on the support of literacy coaches. Literacy coaches work with teachers to
improve literacy instruction and thus to improve student achievement. However, administrators, teachers, and coaches themselves might be uncertain about whether they are providing support effectively.

The purpose of this self-study guide is to increase the knowledge, skills, and ability of teachers to implement evidence-based instructional practices by improving the effectiveness of literacy coaching.

This self-study guide is intended to help administrators, teacher leaders, and coaches determine which components of literacy coaching to prioritize based on the data collected. Sources of evidence for this review include coach schedules, lesson plans, professional development agendas, and similar documents, which self-study team members can review to assess whether an area of coaching is being sufficiently addressed.

The components important to the implementation of coaching were identified based on a thorough review of the literature on literacy coaching. This guide was developed by Laurie Lee and Kevin G. Smith in partnership with the Regional Educational Laboratory Southeast’s Improving Literacy Research Alliance. It was pilot tested with Wolfpack Works coaches, a literacy coaching program based at North Carolina State University.
Professional Learning Community:
Emergent Reader Module!
With support from a trained facilitator, the Professional Learning Community: Emergent Literacy engages preschool teachers in regular, collaborative learning experiences to support their use of evidence-based language and literacy strategies when working with young children.

The PLC materials are designed to guide preschool teachers as they collaborate through discussions, engage in hands-on activities, and reflect on their own implementation of strategies learned during the PLC with the support of peers and a trained facilitator. Through this collaborative learning experience, preschool teachers expand their knowledge base as they read, discuss, share, and apply evidence-based ideas and strategies.

The PLC suite of materials includes four modules: Print Knowledge,
Phonological Awareness, Vocabulary, and Oral Language. Each module comprises four resources: a Participant Guide, Facilitator Guide, PowerPoint presentation, and Videos.

Each module includes 3 sessions, for a total of 12 sessions. The timeline for completing the modules is flexible; they can serve as a year's worth or more of professional learning. Each session follows a five-step process for collaborative learning.
Focus on the One: Desired Results, High Probability and High Intensity Barriers
The Student Support and Academic Achievement Unit (SSAAU) of Florida's Problem Solving/Response to Intervention Project (PS/RtI) would like to invite you to participate in the fifth challenge of the Focus on the One: Desired Results, High Probability and High Intensity Barriers designed to support effective implementation of standards aligned instruction for all.
Throughout the year, several challenges have been released that focus on planning for all students using the desired results through distribution of infographics. These infographics include a video, podcast, open access platform and application sheet to support effective implementation within an MTSS.

The fifth infographic Desired Results, High Probability and High Intensity Barriers shares important nuances between high probability and high intensity barriers for the improvement of outcomes for all learners within a Multi-tiered System of Support.

Please share this information with educators, administrators, and leaders within your district.

It’s a pleasure to support our Florida educators!

TLC AT & UDL Loan Library News
Time to get creative about your resources is one of the five tips shared in the National Education Association article, 5 Tips to Improve Your Lesson Plan. The AT & UDL Loan Library has instructional materials that can help bring the curriculum to life! Summertime provides you with an opportunity to teach yourself about new learning tools available in the AT & UDL Loan Library and how different technology features could benefit your students.

Take a look in the AT & UDL Loan Library (https://www.at-udl.net/) on the navigation panel select Instructional Supports and More, then select Robotics/Virtual Reality to explore the following resources:

Humanoid FlashCards 4D Augmented Reality

Space FlashCards 4D Augmented Reality

Ocean FlashCards 4D Augmented Reality

Animal and Food FlashCards 4D Augmented Reality

These technologies offer more than Science content. They provide students with opportunities to practice literacy, critical thinking, research and problem-solving skills. Augmentative reality can bring concepts to life in a fun, motivating way, providing active learning opportunities and aiding the visual learner, which can bring huge benefits to memory and recall. It allows students to examine objects in 3D, with texture, shape, movement and interactive potential and even sounds. Thus, not only adding excitement to the learning process but also additional information which is not possible with a standard textbook. Be sure to explore the fun lesson ideas for the 4D Augmented Reality Flashcard found at http://bit.ly/4funLearning.

Attention AT & UDL Loan Library Patrons
Extended Loan/End of Life Items
June 1st to July 30th,
Mark Your Calendar!

Each summer the AT & UDL Loan Library inventory is examined closely to ensure that it is up-to-date and supported by the manufacturers. Keeping the loan library inventory current is essential in providing school districts with state of art technology that AT specialists and Loan Library patrons can borrow for your district technology trials.

All inventory that is no longer being sold or supported by the manufacturers and vendors are removed from the Loan Library. As a result, we provide our loan library patrons an opportunity to participate in End of Life/Extended Loans experience. Here's how it works:

On June 1st, 2021 at 8 AM (EST) you will see a new category in the AT & UDL Loan Library website (https://www.tlc-mtss.com/ titled End-of-Life (EOL) Items on the navigation bar. This category will only be available for a limited time (June and July 2021). Please contact Dr. Tony Dutra (tdutra@usf.edu) or one of our AT and UDL Loan Library Offices.
Visit the Technology & Learning Connections website for additional tools and resources to help prepare all students for college, career, and life. You can also view past editions of the AT & UDL Newsletter on our Resources page.
This resource was funded through the Bureau of Exceptional Student Education with IDEA Part B dollars. The information and resources are provided as a free awareness service to the educational community and do not reflect any specific endorsement by any parties involved. Please note that access to some resources may be blocked by individual school districts.
