VPK - Please Enroll Now! (2021-2022 and 2022-2023)
|
|
The Voluntary Prekindergarten Program (VPK) is a free program for all 4 and 5 year-olds who reside in Florida and are four years old on or before September 1 of each year.
- It is not too late for your child to benefit from this program for 2021-2022, so please enroll now to obtain your VPK certificate for your child.
- If your child will be of age for VPK next year (2022-2023), enrollment is already open, so please do not delay. Apply for your certificate today!
Here is the Family Portal link to enroll:
Florida VPK results in considerable savings for your family. VPK is a free program so you will receive a tuition credit for your child's participation. All Florida families qualify, regardless of income. Your child's tuition account will be adjusted each month once you are enrolled in VPK and have selected FASTB as your school. The current VPK certificate value is $2,486 a year!
Participating in VPK is not a change to your child's program:
Using our French immersion approach, we are teaching the same, high-quality French curriculum your child loves in the same fun, hands-on way. One added element will be the individual VPK learning assessments used to monitor your child's progress and readiness for Kindergarten. Kettly has taught VPK for several years, and she will be completing these assessments with your child in a relaxed, one-on-one setting. As far as we know- FASTB is the only French immersion VPK offered in Florida, and we are proud to offer this fantastic opportunity to your child.
Need more incentive to enroll in VPK now?
How about four free days of school during March vacation?
During the March break, Kettly will teach the VPK for four full days from Monday, March 14, 2022, to Thursday, March 17, 2022, from 8:30-3:00.
These VPK days are offered at no additional cost to you!
*(aftercare is not included but is available if needed- please let us know in advance if you need aftercare on these days.)
Please let us know if your child can attend so we can plan accordingly. :-)
Your child must be fully enrolled and participating in our VPK program to attend on these days offered.
Again- It is not too late to enroll in VPK for the current year if your child was age four on or before September 1, 2021. Additionally, signing up now for next year will ensure your child is all set to benefit from this opportunity in 2022-2023! (To enroll for next year, your next year, your child must be age 4 on or before September 1, 2022).
*The cutoff dates are determined by Florida VPK, not FASTB.

Visit of Corinne Güngör, founder of the French American School of Princeton NJ, Tuesday, February 1st at 8:30 am
|
|
The French American School of Princeton (FASP) was founded by Corinne Güngör and Anne Carcagno in 2000. As an educator and a mother to four trilingual sons, Güngör knew the benefits of bilingualism and the tremendous impact on a child's learning. Upon opening the doors to only five students at its start, Corinne Güngör grew FASP into a multicultural, tight-knit, and thriving school community. In addition to founding FASP, Güngör served as the Head of School until July 2021, when she retired. Willy and Beth have regularly exchanged their experience with Corinne for 15 years. They have invited Corinne to visit the school and meet the FASTB community. We are planning a special Café et Conversation with Corinne Güngör on Tuesday, February 1st at 8:30 am to talk about the network of the French American International Schools in America and the rapid development of FASTB.

Wish List- Got a tricycle to spare?
|
|
Trikes Wanted!
Do you have a sturdy tricycle in good shape that your child is no longer using? If so, please consider donating it to FASTB! The little kids love riding around on the paved pathways, and we could use a few. Thank you!

Kindergarten students discover natural coloring techniques using turmeric, beetroot juice, coffee, and tea leaves. They experiment and paint with these dyes on different supports (paper, wool, fabrics).
To get even closer to nature and Land Art artists, we collected leaves, acorns, and wood from our school playground to create bas-reliefs in class. We will continue this beautiful artistic and scientific Land project to create small ephemeral installations.

Here's a thirsty job...
Please remember to take your child's water bottle home EACH DAY to be washed and refilled.
Also, water bottles must be labeled with your chid's name. You can either use a "sharpie" or masking tape label. Thank you !!!

Featured Staff Member- Sami Andrews
|
|
Sami joined the FASTB staff as a Summer Camp Counselor and has been assisting in aftercare ever since- all while attending college full-time! The kids at FASTB love Sami's gymnastics club activities and the art projects she does with them!
Sami was born and raised in Pinellas County, FL, and is currently attending St. Petersburg College. She was homeschooled her entire life, graduating in 2021 with her high school diploma. She took three years of French in high school through Florida Virtual School, and competed in Congrès de la Culture Française, a state-wide French competition, in 2020 and 2021 in the events of Discours (Impromptu Speaking) and l'Album (Scrapbook).
Sami started working as a Gymnastics Coach in 2018 after six years as a competitive gymnast. She continues to work as an Assistant Coach, as well as holding her own classes at local homeschool co-ops.
Sami has a passion for helping children, and, although she is still figuring out her future plans, has an interest in pursuing a career in pediatric physical or art therapy. Thank you, Sami, for your positive contributions to FASTB!!

IB PYP learner profile : Communicators
|
|
The IB Organization aims to foster internationally-minded students, aware of their impact on their community both locally and globally, and understand their role in creating a better and more peaceful world.
To better execute this mission, the IB Organization created a concept called the Learner Profile, a list of 10 attributes that are valued and upheld by all of the IB World Schools.
As we move forward as a PYP Candidate school, we are also incorporating the Learner Profile into our school community.
This week, we are taking a closer look at the Communicators attribute and how being a proficient communicator can help foster well-rounded members of local, national, and global communities.
The IB Organization describes the Communicators attribute as members of a community who can express themselves confidently and creatively, in more than one language and in many ways. They collaborate effectively listen carefully to the perspective of other individuals and groups.
At FASTB, educating students who can communicate proficiently in both French and English with confidence, creativity and compassion is always a top priority. Our international environment is ideal to foster efficient communicative skills as well as learn to listen to one another.
