Farewell Matt
At the end of December, we said farewell to Matt Bell. He started in 2019 as a Warehouse Assistant and became a Driver early 2021. We will miss him dearly and wish him all the best on his upcoming adventure!
Hello Debbie!
Debbie Staren-Doby joined AFAC's staff as a Development Associate in December! She is no stranger to AFAC, as she was a volunteer for over 13 years, helping out with morning food distributions, serving on the Empty Bowls Committee, and many other activities. We are thrilled to have her on our team!
Upcoming Events
Empty Bowls
February 13, 2022
For a second year in a row, we will be planning an alternative Empty Bowls event. This year, we will be raffling donations from local potters and ceramicists, many who have supported our Empty Bowls events in the past. Be on the lookout for an event email on January 13 for more information.

Sponsorships are now available! Click for more information.
Volunteer Needs
MLK Day of Service Project
January 17
For Volunteer Arlington's annual MLK Day of Service, AFAC is partnering with Arlington County's Food Security Task Force in offering a virtual service project. We are asking people to make "Winter Care Kits" to be given out to our home delivery clients. For more information and to register for this service project, click here.
Client Surveys - Spanish Speakers Wanted
AFAC will be conducting our annual client surveys at our Nelson St location from January 31 to February 5. We are looking for volunteers who can help conduct the surveys in Spanish. To sign up for shifts, please use the online volunteer calendar.
Special Thanks
AFAC Honored with AGLA Award
AFAC is grateful to have received the 2021 AGLA Organization Equality Award for Commitment to LGBTQ+ Equality. AFAC is committed to maintaining a safe, supportive, and respectful space for all of the members of our community. Thank you AGLA! We are truly honored!
Home Delivery Heroes
Shout out to our volunteers Nate and Sydney! Every Monday, they take an AFAC vehicle to The Shelton Apartments in Green Valley and deliver groceries to 18 families who have difficulties coming down to the food distribution at Nelson St. Their efforts ensure these families have access to fresh and healthy groceries every single week. Thank you so much!
Thank You Holiday Supporters!
Thank you to everyone who supported AFAC throughout the holiday season! So many in our community helped out AFAC by volunteering their time, donating their funds, or holding holiday food drives to collect food. Special shoutout to the Arlington County Sheriff's Office (pictured) for collecting 3,731 food items during their annual holiday food drive for AFAC!
Thank You to our Empty Bowls Sponsors!
