"David: Become the Giant that Needs to be Slain"
Sunday Sermon

One of the most complete biographies we have in the bible is that of David. The story we frequently tell our children is about David and Goliath. We’ve all heard it and love it. The story of the young teen slaying the giant... But if we look closely at the story of David we see a boy becoming the giant that should be slain. And if we delve even further we find a man transformed by grace. Join us on Sunday as we look at this beautiful biography of a King.

Coffee with the Pastor

Hello Church Family.

I am so happy to be here with you and I can't wait to get to know each of your stories. Transitioning in a pandemic is something else. Normally we could have all kinds of events to get to know one another but in a pandemic that becomes a bit more challenging. So, I need your help.

Over the next few months, I'll be hosting on Fridays, "Coffee with the Pastor." We will meet at Starbucks, 2800 Ygnacio Valley Road in Walnut Creek. You can sign up using sign-up genius and place your order for your favorite coffee or tea drink. Your drink and your pastor will be waiting for you. It's your hour so feel free to bring a partner, spouse, small group etc. I can't wait to hear your story.

Peace and hope,

Pastor Rustin
Our Deepest Sympathies

We give thanks for the life of Partner in Mission, Dick Brown who died unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 13th and extend sympathy to his children Susan Firman and David Brown. A celebration of life will be planned and announced for a future date.
All Saints Day Roses

As part of Saint Matthew's All Saints Day memorial celebration, the Foundation will be handing out roses in the Memorial Garden to honor any loved ones from 10:30 am - 11:30 am on Sunday, November 1. You are invited to leave the rose on site or take it with you. We invite you to park in the north parking lot and follow the guidance of the Foundation Committee who will be present to assist with physical distancing including using one way entrances into and exits from the Memorial Garden. Please wear a mask, remain 6 ft. from others, and limit the time you spend in the Memorial Garden so all can participate. To make a gift in honor of a loved one or to learn more about the Foundation, please click here.
Mercy Brown Bag Needs Donations

Adriene Iverson works with Elder Care Alliance; their Mercy Brown Bag program has grown exponentially with the pandemic. The Mercy Brown Bag program is serving about 8500 low income seniors throughout Alameda County two bags of nutritious groceries per month.

Your support is needed with two things:
  • First - we need grocery bags as we go through about 800 a week. Please drop off brown bag donations by Friday, October 23rd at Saint Matthew in the box next to the MCC Food Drive bin.
  • Second - if anyone wants to volunteer to sort food or distribute, you can sign up here.
In-Person Worship Survey

Six months in to Physical distancing restrictions due to COVID-19 we are trying to get a baseline for how our community feels about returning to in-person worship.

Please take a few moment to fill out our survey. We will post the results in two weeks.

If you received the survey by email it came from an old email address of Pastor Rustin. Please excuse the mistake. If you filled it out there we have received your submission.
Food Drive

Thank you so much for your continued generosity in donating non-perishable food items for Monument Crisis Center. We have been able to provide 20+ filled grocery bags each week for over 20 weeks!! Thank you!!
Monument Crisis Center continues to need our support. Please drop off your donations of non-perishable items Monday-Friday, 10am-7pm at Saint Matthew. (Please do not leave donations by the office doors on the weekend as this attracts rodents.) Please do not leave glass jars as Monument can not accept glass.

Current needs: tuna, cereal, pasta, tomato products (15 oz. or less), peanut butter, and baby diapers sizes 4-6.

Always needed: other non-perishable items - canned vegetables, canned fruit, rice, canned meals, soups, mac and cheese, beans, and baby food.

Please watch for our October 30 e-news for a list of needed Thanksgiving groceries.

If you have questions, please contact Gail Dutcher.
Farewell to Kim and Steve Rohrberg

We bless Kim and Steve as they move to Washington and we celebrate their time at Saint Matthew.

Thanks to Kim and Steve for serving faithfully with our coffee ministry and as greeters!
