GGUSD Prepares to Launch School Year with Distance Learning
Our schools are hard at work preparing for the 2020-2021 school year which, due to the new state mandate, will begin August 24 in a distance learning format for all schools. Only after our county (Orange) is two weeks off the state watch list can we consider reopening schools for in-person classes.

Starting the school year in an online-format is new for all of us during this unprecedented time in education. Our dedicated GGUSD school administrators, educators and support staff share a commitment to helping all students succeed and are ready to implement a distance learning program that provides a consistent daily and weekly schedule. Students will benefit from:
  • A scheduled school day with guaranteed direct instruction and clear classroom expectations
  • Interactive teacher-led instruction via video conferencing via Zoom or Google Meet
  • Small group instruction with their teacher based on identified needs and progress
  • Renewed focus on social-emotional learning with school-wide and teacher-led lessons
  • Regular and consistent access to one-on-one support from their teacher
  • Attendance will be taken daily
  • NEW: interactive, independent learning software provided to ALL students to allow for reinforcement of concepts, intervention and acceleration.
  • New this year – free breakfast and lunch for ALL registered GGUSD students at any of 31 Grab and Go Meal sites

GGUSD Launches Start Strong Initiative
GGUSD is preparing to begin the 2020-2021 school year with a “Start Strong” initiative that is designed to provide students with new social-emotional wellness support. The initiative will equip teachers with instructional resources to ensure that the first three weeks of school are focused on the social-emotional needs of GGUSD’s 41,000 students across 67 schools.

The need for social-emotional support is more important now than ever. GGUSD recognizes that the experiences of a world pandemic have affected all of its students in some way. A GGUSD team of school psychologists, social workers, nurses, speech and language pathologists, and instructional leaders developed learning modules, videos, and other resources to support student well-being specific to each grade level.
Student Spotlight: La Quinta Students' Video Selected for TV Commercial
A mental health awareness video created by a team of students at La Quinta High School was selected for the OC Health Care Agency’s (HCA) suicide prevention campaign to be aired as a 30-second television commercial on Fox Sports West during Angels' baseball games. We love to see our students advocating for important issues like mental health awareness!
GGUSD Celebrates our Principals
With the first day of school around the corner, GGUSD's district leadership team hosted a drive-through celebration for our principals to thank them for all of their hard work in developing reopening plans that will support student success! GGUSD has the ABSOLUTE BEST principals around!
