Friends have contacted us - and the Ledge Light Foundation - with photos.
Having a little extra time these days, they each brought out images from 'back in the day', when they served in the USCG on our local lighthouses.

Rick Bonanno, above and at left, served on 'the Ledge' from 1959-1960. A selection of his photos already are on view at Ledge Lighthouse. But last week, he came upon some more, which he shared with LLF president Bruce Buckley.

Gari Auretta's pictures, top right and photo of lens below, were taken while he was stationed on the Race between 1966 and 1967. We also have a video of Gari telling about his living out at Race Rock, when he visited the Custom House last fall.

Visit our lighthouses facebook pages to see more photos!

Ways to Support Coastal Communities, from GreenWave
(We were hoping to bring GreenWave in to give a talk this spring...)

While we recognize that the impact of COVID-19 has few boundaries, we know that people are looking for ways to support local producers to help preserve their livelihoods and communities. Here are a few ways to show your support:
Over 100 climate experts, activists, and leaders have signed on to support a Green Stimulus to Rebuild our Economy , co-authored in part by GreenWave board member Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson. Consider becoming a signatory.

The  Local Catch Network , which includes over 500 fishermen, organizers, researchers, and consumers, kicked off a coordinated effort to connect seafood producers and consumers through online seafood locator tools and forums. Use their Local Catch Seafood Finder to locate seafood suppliers across the United States based on location, species, and delivery method.

Get oysters delivered from this growing list of oyster producers.

Learn and share information about seafood safety during the coronavirus outbreak aggregated by the National Fisheries Institute.
  • Keep watch on New London's waterfront 24/7 with our NL HarborCam. We've had over 600,000 views so far! Above, the harbor scene Saturday afternoon.
