January 2022
you to check PAFA’s Diversity Awareness Calendar monthly.

PAFA has undergone various changes since we updated our newsletter. There has been various moments and events in 2021 that have pointed us towards a greater need for social justice work. We featured many national efforts and conversations in the Looking Forward section of our monthly diversity newsletter. As the members of PAFA's Office of Institutional Safety & Equity (OISE) begin to set our goals and priorities this year, we are reminded that our 2021 mantra to "look forward" also entailed looking outwards, beyond ourselves at our overall social impact. We are excited to launch our 2022 social justice initiative with a commitment to community based learning and social impact.

We hope that all members of our community will be inspired and empowered to join our social justice initiatives throughout the year. We are pleased to invite you to the first of these initiatives: our 2nd annual MLK Day Celebration on January 18, 2022. This event will be broadcasted live via Zoom at 6:00pm EST.

We encourage you to share your community based projects and partnerships with us so we can highlight these efforts in our monthly newsletters. We will continue to use our newsletters to share other opportunities for local, national, and global social impact.

MLK Day Celebration
January 17-18, 2022
The theme for our 2022 MLK Day Celebration is "Bending Towards Justice" and is excerpted from MLK's sermon, "Remaining Awake Through a Great Revolution" (delivered March 1968):

"Yes, we shall overcome because the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice. "

Join us for an inspirational night of celebration as we mark the 93rd birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in the Black theological spirit in which he grounded his activism.
MLK DAY CELEBRATION
OISE is proud to host our second annual MLK Day Celebration on Tuesday January 18, 2022 at 6:00pm via Zoom. Join us for a service dedicated to Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life, commitment to racial justice, and the full impact of the changes he had championed.
Writer, poet, entrepreneur and Morehouse College alumnus, John Lee Gaston White, will deliver the keynote address on the theme, "Bending Towards Justice."
OISE, in partnership with the Belonging Committee, has adopted a social justice focus for the 2022 year. During the program we will offer our community the space to share the social issues they care about and how they impact change in their local communities.
MLK DAY OF SERVICE
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday is nationally recognized as a day of service -- "it's day on, not a day off." Join the entire PAFA Community for a Day of Service. Click the link to find local (virtual) service opportunities for staff, faculty, and students. We will update this document regularly.
