Chester County’s Department of Drug & Alcohol Services is recognizing the Red Ribbon Campaign, which is sponsored by National Family Partnership. The campaign aims to increase community awareness on drugs. According to National Family Partnership, the campaign was originally started in 1985 as a response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique (Kiki) Camarena. Angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction caused by drugs in America.

New Prevention Provider Alert!
Chester County’s Department of Drug and Alcohol Services (CCDDAS) announces new partnerships with local agencies to ensure comprehensive Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug (ATOD) prevention services are available to community organizations, schools, and all Chester County residents. The providers include:

Prevention is defined as action taken to prevent individuals from using alcohol, tobacco, marijuana or other drugs by implementing programming and services which primarily targets school aged youth but also includes parents, school, and community.

In Chester County, prevention services consist of age appropriate school-based and community-based programs, education and awareness on Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug (ATOD) topics, identification and referral of students at risk, and information and referral related to prevention, treatment and recovery services for community members.

What's Hiding in Your Medicine Cabinet?
With Halloween approaching, it is a good time to talk about medication safety. You may ask, "why?". The reason being many medications can potentially look and even taste like candy to children. Therefore, it is important to keep medication safety in mind.

BELOW ARE SOME SAFETY TIPS:
-Dispose of unneeded or expired medications at a safe location such as a medication collection site.

-Keep medications in a secure location such as a pill pod or locked cabinet.

-Never share prescribed medication with family or friends, even if they are experiencing the same symptoms as you.

DEA Drug Take Back Day
Saturday, October 24th
Chester County’s Department of Drug & Alcohol Services is raising community awareness for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day taking place on Saturday, October 26, 2019. Organized nationwide by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), National Prescription Drug Take Back Day provides local sites for safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while educating the public about the potential for abuse of medications.

From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24th, prescription drug disposal sites will be set up throughout Chester County.

2020 Vaping Summit: November 4th & 5th

Join Pennsylvania Alliance to Control Tobacco (PACT) for a two-day virtual conference that will offer an overview of the vaping epidemic in Pennsylvania and showcase the research, policies, and programs currently addressing it. Resources will be discussed and shared to augment participants’ efforts to make an impact in their communities.

TALK SAVES LIVES:  
An Introduction to Suicide Prevention 

This program, developed by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, is a standardized presentation that covers the scope of this leading cause of death; what the research has found to be the warning signs and risk factors of suicide; and the strategies that prevent it.

Popular Mental Health Program Returns:
Virtual Mental Health First Aid Classes are being scheduled now!

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, Mental Health First Aid classes in Chester County and across the state have been on hold to comply with public health safety guidelines. The popular program is now being offered virtually with an updated and dynamic new curriculum.

Chester County has contracted to have the classes coordinated through West Chester University. The first virtual class is being offered in partnership with Chester County Hospital on
Saturday, November 14 from 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM. Space is limited.
