Parsha Talk
Sometimes people who seem to have everything are desperately unhappy while people who seem to have very little are content. Find out more in this week's Parsha Talk!

It came to pass when she had such difficulty giving birth, that the midwife said to her, "Do not be afraid, for this one, too, is a son for you." And it came to pass, when her soul departed for she died that she named him Ben oni, but his father called him Benjamin. So Rachel died, and she was buried on the road to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.

From the desk of our
S.T.E.A.M. Lab
Our ECE STEAM students have been working hard to learn the names of and sort out their colors and shapes and have begun working on patterning. Our older students have been taking an in-depth view of patterns found in nature, art and music. They learned how animals use patterns to camouflage, artists use patterns for their designs, and even composers use patterns when writing their music. They then used that knowledge to code different robots, taking inspiration from the pattern sequences they saw or heard during our pattern lessons.

Eco-Art
2nd and 3rd grade artists learned about eco artist Mariah Reading, who makes art out of trash (google her work; her art is amazing!). They then set to work creating their own art from plastic bottles. The children are learning the process of being a sculptor and creating their own bottle animal sculptures.

Chemical Reactions
While learning about the types of chemical reactions and signs that a reaction is occurring, 8th grade students performed a series of experiments that demonstrated each sign, including color change, gas formation, solid formation, and temperature change. One of the reactions - lemon juice and baking soda - demonstrated a temperature change, as the flask got colder, and a gas formed, as carbon dioxide blew up the balloon.

School Marathon is Back!
We are so excited that School Marathon is back! It is open to all lower school students.
School Marathon is a group running program for children which will take place at school during recess. The students will complete 26.2 miles (the length of a full marathon) over a 9-week period. The 26.2 mile "marathon experience” is a daily event and follows a structured process and pre-determined schedule. This program includes
incentives for milestones
to keep students motivated along the way. School Marathon offers kids the ability to achieve an adult-sized goal by breaking it into smaller achievable goals. This program is a duplication of a marathon; however. the mileage is completed over a longer period of time, at school, kid style. Of course, the students will finish with a big celebration! Please sign
this
permission slip to have your child participate.

Parsha Games
The 11th graders learned a lesson in communication in connection with the Parsha (Lavan's trickery and the miscommunication with Yaakov). They discovered that one may have a clear picture in mind and be explaining directions as clearly as possible, and the outcome may still not be what was intended. The activity was for one student to create a picture using foam shape stickers and describe how to make it to peers using only descriptive terms.

JCC Craft Fair
Thank you to everyone who came out to support the RMBA booth at the JCC Holiday Market! Middle school BIMA elective students sold projects created in the makerspace including menorahs, mezuzot, challah covers, jewelry, and keychains! They even used their Hebrew skills to sell many of their products to local Israelis. The class raised over $1,800 through their sales, which is going towards additional items and materials for the entrepreneurial space.
