Catholic Schools Week: Wear St. George or green attire to mass this Sunday to show your support of St. George Catholic School and kick off Catholic Schools Week.

Girls' Uniform Policy Change - leggings are being added to the girls' school uniform policy for the upcoming predicted cold weather days. Black, navy blue or white full length (no capri) leggings may be worn with uniform socks and shoes on cold weather days.

Distinguished Graduate - St. George has selected Kyle Jackson as our St. George Distinguished graduate. Kyle was tragically killed in an automobile accident in May but was a great example and product of Catholic Education. Kyle was a person of strong ethics in work and life. Kyle also had a gift for languages, and could pick up on a language within minutes, enough to converse with the people he was visiting. He was sensitive, always had a ready smile and a wonderful sense of humor. He impacted the lives of his coworkers in the real estate community and Catholic High School where he was the tennis coach. Kyle’s wife Emily was his constant support, partner, and “cheerleader” in all areas of his life...and he returned the devotion.

Student of the Year - Sam Sellers, 5th grade, will represent the Diocese of Baton Rouge and progress to the next level. Congratulations to Sam. We are Dragon proud!

Catholic Schools Week is a special time each year when we focus on all the gifts that a Catholic Education provides our students. Twelve St. George teachers will be recognized this year for their service to Catholic Schools. We thank them for their commitment to Catholic Education and to St. George.

  • 15 YEARS: Lara Bettencourt, Missy Dauzat, Laura Drone, Josie Duke, Laurie Freeling, Susan Giles, Beth Loewe, Valarie Miller, and Leticia Vasquez
  • 20 YEARS: Lori Tucker-Day, and Lona Sloan
  • 25 YEARS: Jodie Legendre

In conjunction with Catholic Schools Week, we are also beginning our festivities for the auction. There are a variety of ways to support St. George this year beginning on Monday with restaurant week. Dine in or take-out and mention St. George School for a portion of the proceeds to be donated to our school. Find more details below.

Additionally, during this time of year, I begin preparing for the next school year and it is always bittersweet as I receive each staff member's letter of intent for the upcoming school year and I learn that some of our staff will not be returning next year.

The following staff members will not be returning to St. George next year.
  • Angela Sneed- Music Teacher- retired, going to spend time with grandchildren
  • Kim Minvielle- PreK Receptionist- retired, going to care for a grandchild
  • Kelly Murray- Guidance Counselor- caring for her new baby, opening a private practice
  • Natalie Lanata- Guidance Counselor- moving to Texas
  • Abby DeCuir- 8th grade Science Teacher - LSU online education
  • Ashlee Bergeron- 7th grade Math - returning to full time mom

I am sad to see them go and wish them the best of luck in their new phases of life. I appreciate each of them for the time and talents they have given to St. George and for informing me of their plans so that we can plan accordingly.

Call for Door Prizes for Teacher Appreciation Week
The Home and School Special Events Committee is accepting donations to make “Swag Bags” for our teachers to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week. Donated door prizes are usually given during the annual sit-down luncheon. Although we are not sure at this time if we will be able to have the luncheon, we will still collect prizes to make “Swag Bags” for each teacher to let them know how much we appreciate them.

If you would like to donate an item (nothing is too big or to small), please send items to the office with your name on it by Friday, February 11th. You may contact Nicole Muller 985-960-6127 or Marcy Maurer 225-439-4139 with any questions.

All individuals and businesses will be recognized for their donation in Dragon Tales. Thank you in advance for all your love and support for our teachers.
