CHURCHWIDE RETREAT IN APRIL IS BACK!

Though we’ve had to miss our churchwide retreat the last two years, we’re hopeful that THIS IS OUR YEAR to return to the fun and togetherness of this time away. Mark your calendars now for April 22-24 at Fort Caswell!

As in years past, we’ll enjoy small groups, worship, individual prayer time, free time, meals together, and a myriad of craft and recreation electives from which to choose!  We have reserved Redwine, Yaupon, Yucca, and Riverside Cottages as well as ten rooms in the Smith Conference Center (which has ramp access as well as elevators inside). We have made reservations for up to 130 people; sleeping arrangements in the houses range from single-gender bunk rooms to private rooms with double beds to a few rooms with a double bed and bunk; sleeping arrangements in the Smith Conference Center are rooms with two double beds and cost a bit more. It will be communal living, but that’s part of the fun of getting to know each another! Youth and third through fifth graders can attend without their parents as long as we have individuals who are dedicated to help chaperone during free times and transitions.

The cost of the weekend (two nights lodging + four meals + supplies) will be:
  • Housing in one of the cottages: $80/person with a family cap of $350;
  • Double occupancy in the Smith Conference Center: $86/person (max of four per room);
  • Single occupancy in the Smith Conference Center: $120/person;
  • For those wishing to stay off-campus: $25/person to cover visitor fee plus food/supplies.

Our time together will begin after supper on Friday and will end after worship on Sunday morning. There is no charge for children two and under.

Space is limited, so please contact Lynn Lingafelt no later than February 13 to reserve your spot and indicate your sleeping preferences. Private bedrooms will be assigned on a first-come/first-served basis. We will operate under the most current CDC and NC COVID guidelines.

Since we know that not everyone will be able to attend, we will also have Sunday School and worship in our sanctuary on Sunday morning, April 24.
SANCTUARY CHOIR UPDATE

Due to the current Omicron wave of the pandemic, the format of the Sanctuary Choir will change for January to smaller ensembles on both Wednesday evening rehearsals and Sunday morning worship services. Schedules are currently being set up and choir members will have an opportunity to opt in or out via email. Contact Maureen Howell for questions or to sign up. Interested in joining the choir? Have questions? Contact Warren Howell. Vaccination against COVID-19 is a requirement.
DELIVERING MEALS
TO THE
HELEN WRIGHT CENTER

For the past year through our partnership with And Also With 'Cue, we have been providing dinner to the women living at the Helen Wright Center. The Helen Wright Center offers emergency shelter to single women without children who are experiencing homelessness. Ever since the pandemic began, this has been a contactless experience that involves picking up the food from our church kitchen and delivering it to the Helen Wright Center where it is served by their employees. We have already committed to several dates in 2022, and would love your help in making these deliveries. If you are able to help deliver for one or more of these dates, please email Ashley Prather.

CENTERPOINT (IN-PERSON AND ZOOM) RESUMES WITH BIBLE STUDY

Centerpoint resumes in January with a three-week study entitled “Reading, Studying, and Being Transformed by the Bible” led by First Baptist member and Professor of Old Testament and Hebrew at the Campbell University Divinity School, Dr. Barry A Jones. Covering some of the material in his 2019 book Gaining a Heart of Wisdom, Dr. Jones will use Psalm 90 as a concrete example. Week one will focus on the common sense of the text, with the idea that everyone can be a reader. Week two will focus on the critical sense, using the resources of scholarship to become active students of the questions that reading the Bible raises. Week three will focus on the canonical and contextual sense of the Bible as scripture that addresses us and shapes us. We invite you to join us in-person or via Zoom at 6:15pm on January 5, 12, and 19. We are privileged to have a distinguished scholar like Barry Jones in our church family.

GLOBAL MISSION OFFERING

All of us are eager for Christmas to come each year as we celebrate the birth of the baby Jesus. If you were in worship Sunday evening, December 5, the sights and sounds of our annual Hanging of the Greens service are still twirling through your mind. What a great way to begin this season of giving as we decorate our church and homes with symbols of God’s gift of a son that we might have eternal life! For some of us this season began early with Toy Joy activities and then December’s mission project will provide basic clothing for our Clothing Ministry. There are needs everywhere and our contributions matter.

For our CBF missionaries, the feeling of “Christmas in our hearts” is not just one day or one month, but all year long. Their lives are dedicated to telling the story of God’s love to those with no hope and showing God’s love through their actions as they help people find food, shelter, work, and a purpose for their lives. 100% of your gifts for the offering will support the long-term presence of CBF field personnel serving in the United States and around the world. This is truly a gift that keeps on giving. Please give generously and prayerfully to this offering.

OUR FIRST FRUITS
STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN

During this time of stewardship, we ask you to:
  • Recognize with gratitude the gifts God has given. Our gratitude motivates us to return our first fruits to God.
  • Prayerfully consider your gift to FBC Raleigh and how God may use you in our ministries this year.
  • Give from your first and best. The idea of first fruits challenges us to give intentionally from our first and best, rather than our leftovers. This means setting our intentions in advance of the year to come.

When pledges have been returned to the church, the budget will be presented again for approval by our congregation. The proposed budget is available in the members-only section of our website. You may also request a copy by calling the church office at 919-832-4485. You may pledge online here. As of 12/30/21 we have 156 pledges totaling $1,134,853
DO YOU NEED OFFERING ENVELOPES?

If you have requested them, you will find contribution envelopes for 2022 on the first floor corridor leading to the Clothing Ministry. Please help us reduce mailing expenses by picking up your envelopes by January 23 or by having someone pick them up for you. After January 23, we will mail them to you. If you would like some but haven’t gotten any in the past, contact Wayne Hager and he will go over options with you. Giving patterns have changed so much during COVID and we want to be sure we meet the expectations you have for offering envelopes.
AAWC'S WEEKLY SCHEDULE

Each week, we post And Also With 'Cue's weekly schedule here in Rose Window Weekly as well as on our Facebook page to let you know our lunch schedule and if there will be outside events on the weekend for you to attend.

Come eat with us this week,
