Words from Will...The Master's Piece
This Sunday it was our holy pleasure to
Bless the Quilts fashioned by our Heart to Heart Quilters. Each quilt is made and then given to a child at Dell Children’s Hospital, Camp Braveheart, the Rainbow Room, families in transition, Hospice Austin and members of our church family. During the 20 years of this ministry 2,900 quilts have been given out (including 332 given out in 2019). This labor of love can end up reaching further than we expect as recipients pass on their quilts to others they know in need. Two years ago, a friend of mine came to the office with tears in his eyes to tell me that one of them had been given to his wife after surgery. The only way that could have happened is that a child or family member had left it at the hospital and a nurse passed it along. The man came and visited our quilters to tell them the difference that quilt made. This is only one story among many.
The picture above shows the hands of our children touching the quilts made by our dedicated ladies and saying prayers for the makers of the quilts as well as for those who will receive them. What a representation that is of our ministry as First United Methodist Church! Some gather and donate material, while others fashion the individual pieces, and still others quilt the pieces together to form a masterpiece of love. Then it is offered to the community beyond our walls as a gesture of incarnate love (the love of God made real in Christ) and healing.
If you would like to be part of
Heart to Heart Quilters, they meet on Thursdays from 9:30 till noon in 115 Winsted. Contact Normal Creel at 512.255.4565 for more information.
Sincerely in Christ,

Special Invitation
This Sunday concludes our
“Called” series. What a joy it has been to bounce the Call of God to our heroes of faith off the call of God to each one of us. In the end, God still calls ordinary people to do extraordinary things (large and small) in partnership with Him. This Sunday, we finish with one of the most dramatic call stories, the call of Isaiah. This will be one of the more moving services of the year, so make plans to be here and bring someone with you.
P.S. The Cottons will be going
Hollywood for Trunk or Treat this year, with a red carpet and our 2 ½ year old drama queen (granddaughter) as the star. The weather will be picture perfect.
Come love on the people of our community!

Coming up soon at First Church!
|
|
Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat is this Sunday! This event has grown into a very large community outreach at First Church. Join us from 4 - 6 pm! It is a fun, free event for families (minus pets) to come in costume and enjoy interactive games, inflatables, a trackless train, trick or treating at decorated trunks, hot dogs, popcorn and more!
Although the event is free, we will be accepting donations for the Thanksgiving bags we deliver to families in need. Items include: canned corn, green beans, sweet potatoes, fruit, stuffing mix, instant potatoes, corn bread mix, cake or brownie mix. We will also accept monetary donations for turkeys.
Thank you for the tremendous response to our requests for help. We have plenty of trunks but still need a few more volunteers to work simple games (that we provide) and put smiles on children's faces.
Sign up to volunteer TODAY!
In order to save onsite parking for our guests, we are asking our people to park at Texas Baptist Children's Home or STARRY. There will be shuttles to and from the church from 3:30 to 7:00 pm.
Spread the word! Invite your family and friends to come to Trunk or Treat/Fall Festival this Sunday.

We are so grateful to First Church volunteers who serve those in the Texas Gulf Coast area who are still recovering from Hurricane Harvey. These volunteers work with our United Methodist Volunteers in Mission, a mission effort of the church to help those affected by disaster. This week our 8-member team will base out of Sinton United Methodist Church and work alongside residents in the Rockport and Port Aransas area.
First Church leads these missions every month, and adults of all skill levels are welcome. The next trip will be November 21-24. To sign up or for more more information contact Dave Scott at txgolfersall@gmail.com.

soft interview rooms to provide care and comfort for victims after a traumatic event. His project required 82 hours of service to complete. Mark is a senior at Cedar Ridge High School and is planning to attend community college next fall.
