Good Afternoon Residents -
Many of you are aware that earlier this week I toured the HNA Palisades (former IBM) Conference Center with representatives from HNA and the Town. The Town Board recently hired outside counsel to assist the Board, in cooperation with HNA, to request proposals for a development plan for of the property. I would personally like to see the hotel and conference center kept as part of any new plan. Unfortunately, in today’s environment, in the long run, the property as currently used may not be sustainable. Working with HNA, the Town is looking for a development plan that is consistent with the needs of the Town, will maintain the property on the tax rolls and, at the same time, allow HNA to sell to a purchaser that knows his or her plan is acceptable to the Town.
Just a friendly reminder that our regularly scheduled Town Board meeting will take place this coming Tuesday, August 18, 2020. Meeting will begin at 7:00pm. The agenda for the meeting can be found here. You are more than welcome to come to Town Hall to view the meetings, or you can watch on Channel's 30(Fios)/78(Optimum) or Facebook Live. To voice your concerns or contentment, you must address the Town Board in person. Social distancing rules will be in effect.
Continue washing those hands, staying safe and maintaining social distancing, it's working.

Orangetown Police Department
In late May and July, a number of cars were vandalized and/or stolen, right from the driveways of the homeowners. The one thing they all had in common - their vehicles were unlocked and their keys were left inside.
Orangetown Police Department is strongly encouraging all residents to lock their cars at night and to make sure you take your keys with you.
They also want to remind you - once criminals have had a "successful" heist, they usually go back to the same area again.
The Members of the Orangetown Police Department would like to remind the residents, that when you leave a Key Fob in a vehicle, you are making it easy for the Bad Guys.

Pet of the Week
Jackson is an adorable American Bull Terrier mix. He is 5 years old and extremely playful. He can often be found playing tag with squirrels or snuggling with his human sister and brother, Madison and Dylan. Jackson adores running through the snow and playing with his favorite soccer ball in the backyard.

Collection of School Taxes
Due to COVID, our Town Clerk is urging everyone to pay their taxes by mail or on-line. They are doing their best to keep residents and their staff as safe as possible.
The Town of Orangetown Tax Office collects School taxes for the Pearl River, South Orangetown, Nyack and Nanuet School Districts.
The fiscal period for School taxes is July 1st to June 30th. School tax bills are mailed in early September. Their due date is September 30th, as specified on the bill. After September 30th, a 5% penalty is due until the end of the collection, which is usually October 31st. If ending date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or a legal holiday, it goes to the next business day.
All unpaid school bills are turned over to the Rockland County Commissioner of Finance in New City. They may be paid at the County until the re-levy date. After that date, all unpaid bills are re-levied on the following Property Tax Bill with a 7% penalty plus interest.

Grand View-on-Hudson Thursday Morning Meetings (Via Zoom)
|
|
Hey, Thursday Morning Club Zoomers…
Mayor Larry Lynn has invited all residents of Orangetown to join Grand View TMC members to share insights, news, thoughts, cheer – and condolences. As they have been doing for nigh on forty years, the longest continuous community activity in the village. So there must be something they like and enjoy about visiting with each other, friends, family, villagers all.
Of course, now the coffee and goodies and periodicals, all fresh, as usual, are presently virtual but they’ll get back to them. Milly liked The New Yorker and New York, Rena liked The New York Review of Books and the Times, Pete liked Harpers and – and so on. Car and Driver. The Atlantic. Fast Company. The Nation. Town and Country. And more. We got to be pretty good coffee makers and cleaner uppers. Left the board room spic and span.
Now that things are Zoomish and we’re getting adjusted to our safe spaces it doesn’t daunt the flow of fervent expression from time to time. And somehow, they’ve got a warmth among them to be cherished. So please, come, experience, add and help. Or just bask. 10am every Thursday. Until around noon. You might even find out where the name came from.
