Global Perspectives: Dionte Allen

A former defensive back for the Buckeyes, Dionte Allen is sharing his passion for football with youth in China through the Shanghai American Football Academy. Allen founded the academy to promote football and is currently training 200 young athletes from ages three to 16 via 15 school programs.

Chinese American Student Association Makes Local Impact

When COVID-19 hit the United States, Jessica Huang, president of the Chinese American Student Association and third-year student majoring in industrial and systems engineering, ordered 200 protective masks to donate to the Ohio At Home Health Care Agency. “We’re working with the Midwest Chinese American Student Association and Chinese American organizations from other schools to raise money to buy masks and other PPE for hospitals and underserved areas,” Huang said.

Faculty Spotlight: Ning Jin

Ning Jin is an assistant professor in the Department of Medical Oncology and a medical oncologist who specializes in treating gastrointestinal cancers.

“When I came to Ohio State for the interview, I was impressed by the facilities, the patient medical service environment and the basic clinical research at the Wexner Medical Center,” Jin said. “The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - James is a great place to work, especially due to its collaborative culture.”

China Gateway Creates Summer Virtual Career Networking Opportunities

Due to COVID-19, the China Gateway introduced several career networking opportunities during the summer including a career series in collaboration with a number of universities in the American Universities China Association (AUCA) and career fairs and forums which helped Buckeyes navigate career opportunities and interact with employers in China.

2020 AUCA Undergraduate Virtual Recruitments Events

In response to the COVID-19, the American University China Association organized a series of virtual recruitment events in September.

Over 40 universities and institutions attended and more than 30 high schools from across China joined to support the events. The China Gateway hosted an individual information session on September 9 and attended the college fair September 19-20.
