Parents and Families of the Mentor Schools,
The 2019-20 school year is right around the corner. It is a good time to revisit our district's goals and vision with regards to technology. One of our first goals is to ensure that all schools have the infrastructure to support learning with technology. This summer, significant time was spent updating our network and wi-fi. This will allow for seamless access for all of our teachers and students to district programs.

At the beginning of last school year we went 1:1 providing each student access to a learning device. We have also provided each student the opportunity to use a Learning Management System (LMS), which allows for delivery of information digitally including content, assignments, calendar information, quizzes, etc. Here is a breakdown of the device and LMS that students will be using based on grade level:
Finally, A BALANCED  approach to teaching and learning has been an emphasis for Mentor Schools since 2015. This balanced approach involves three critical areas that when all working together provide an ideal learning environment for our students. The three areas are technology, space and instruction. It is important to note that just because we have provided devices for every student, the expectation is not that the students are using these devices at all times. This is a big part of the BALANCED approach to teaching and learning. The devices provide opportunities for our teachers to personalize the learning for their students and provide opportunities for small group instruction.

Throughout this year, we will share with you the many different programs that our students use to support their learning. Below is the first - G Suite (Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Sites, etc).
G Suite for Education
Mentor Schools - Adapting, Balancing and Collaborating. Giving our students and teachers access to the G Suite programs provides one of the greatest opportunities for collaboration. Here are just a few examples of how our students take advantage of the G Suite to support their learning.
  • Unlimited storage in Drive
  • Shared notes in Docs
  • Rough draft support in Docs
  • Shared presentation in Slides
  • Collecting data using Forms
  • Knowledge sharing in Sites
