The Annual BEC Anniversary fundraiser is a time to come together as a community that deeply cares about local, regional, and worldwide environmental issues. This is an opportunity to feel good about the work we have done together and in our personal live to better the health and safety of our shared natural resources. Celebrating 45 years of environmental education, advocacy, and protection is a honor and we want to share it with you!
The evening will highlight environmental awards on the big screen, a local silent auction in the barn, newly designed BEC t-shirt sales, and beverages and snacks at the concession. We cant wait to see you there.

2020 Environmental Award Winners
Lifetime Achievement Award: Chuck Lundgren
"Since 1990, BEC has been the primary focus of my volunteer efforts. BEC has the right mix of environmental activism, education, and protection that has kept me hooked.
Over the years I’ve witnessed first-hand how the organization weathered attacks by the local paper, developers, and the Franchise Tax Board, and also survived devastating conflicts within its BOD and staff.
Those challenging and difficult times were balanced with BEC’s great work and results, such as cleaner parks and waterways, an early recycling program that lasted years, the protection of vernal pools and ag lands and groundwater, and the list goes on and on.
I’m just one of many BEC volunteers who have given time, money, and energy to this very worthwhile organization. Thanks so much for the honor, and thanks for continuing the protection of the environment in these very challenging times."
Environmentalist of the Year Award: Butte County Local Food Network
"Thanks to BEC, NVCF/Butte Strong Fund, From the Ground Up, our farmers, KIXE, the gardeners, Tzu Chi, the Chico Certified Farmers Market and all who have partnered with us this year as we launched the Butte County Local Food Network fully into the community.
We are on a roll! This year we installed 103 backyard gardens in our Garden BLITZs, started Vecino Victory Garden, left 1500 seed packets in tiny libraries around the county, delivered over 16 tons of locally grown food to Concow, started a food policy council and more all while in the midst of COVID and fires.
Watch in 2021 as we launch the Farmers MarketMobile, install more gardens, compost, do art, celebrate locally sourcing restaurants, swap seeds and more.
Thanks so much for this honor, BEC! We are proud to be creating a community that grows food together because “Local Food Is Homeland Security!"
Service Award: Aaron Logan
"Whether it’s leading a crew during the annual creek cleanup or prepping in the kitchen for the gala, volunteering for Butte Environmental Council is always a blast. Over the years, BEC has not only been an avenue for service, but one of community. Being a part of this team cultivates meaningful connection and environmental action. I am grateful for the opportunity to support such a great organization and am honored to receive this service award."
More on the Film
"What if confronting the climate crisis is the best chance we’ll ever get to build a better world?
Filmed over 211 shoot days in nine countries and five continents over four years, This Changes Everything is an epic attempt to re-imagine the vast challenge of climate change.
Directed by Avi Lewis, and inspired by Naomi Klein’s international non-fiction bestseller This Changes Everything, the film presents seven powerful portraits of communities on the front lines, from Montana’s Powder River Basin to the Alberta Tar Sands, from the coast of South India to Beijing and beyond.
Interwoven with these stories of struggle is Klein’s narration, connecting the carbon in the air with the economic system that put it there. Throughout the film, Klein builds to her most controversial and exciting idea: that we can seize the existential crisis of climate change to transform our failed economic system into something radically better."
