February 11, 2022
Dear Hart Families,

Happy Friday! We have had a great week of school with our Kindergarten students celebrating the 100th day this week!

Next week, we will have a very busy four-day week. On Monday, we will celebrate Valentine's Day by having our Valentine's class parties from 1:45 - 2:30. We are asking all parents to leave by 2:45 if they would like to leave before the buses. Then, on Thursday, February 17th, we will now have a full school day for students. As a reminder, students must be present at 10:00 a.m. to count for attendance. This full-day + 3 extra minutes added to our day allows us to enjoy February 21st as a holiday. Our school start time will be 7:52 beginning Monday, February 14th. Our doors will continue to open at 7:15 a.m.

For your safety, we are asking parents and students to go through our gate when they are leaving in the afternoon from the park and pick up the loading zone. You can use the crosswalk and go between the buses to the gate. Thank you in advance for helping us keep all of our students and parents safe. Please see the picture below for more details.
I hope that you have an amazing weekend. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me.

All My Best,

School Calendar Update
At the Board of Trustees Workshop on February 7th, a change to our current school calendar was approved. This change addresses some of the impact of the loss of the February 3rd and 4th school days due to inclement weather. On Wednesday of last week, we communicated that students have to attend school on both the February 21st and April 18th bad weather make-up days. This is because school districts are required to ensure students attend school for a minimum of 75,600 minutes. At the Board Meeting on Monday night, the decision was made to alter this plan as follows:

  • Students will attend a full day of school on Thursday, February 17th. This was previously an early release day.
  • 3 minutes will be added to the start of the school day beginning on February 14th (Elementary, Intermediate, and Middle School Only).
  • Students will not attend school on Monday, February 21st.

Why was the additional time added to the start of the school day rather than the end of the school day?
Adding three minutes to the start of the school day will have the least impact on transportation. Additionally, the large majority of our students are already at school by the adjusted start time.

Does my child still have to attend school on the April 18, 2022 bad weather day?
Yes. Students will attend school on Monday, April 18, 2022.

Why didn’t Lovejoy ISD utilize virtual learning during the school closure due to inclement weather?
The Texas Education Agency does not currently provide an option for school districts to count virtual learning as an instructional day. The funded virtual learning options available to public school districts have very specific criteria that limits this option to a small number of students.

I have heard that another school district is not having to use any of their bad weather days to make up missed school days. Why isn’t this an option for Lovejoy ISD?
School districts are required to ensure students attend school for a minimum of 75,600 minutes. Some school districts have built additional time into their school calendar and therefore do not have to utilize make-up days to achieve the minimum minute requirement.
New Gate on North Side of Hart Elementary
A new gate/opening has been installed in the fence on the north side of our school. For those parents who park on the grass in the afternoon for Park and Pickup, there is now a gate/opening for you to walk through the fence. For safety reasons, please use the gate/opening instead of walking around the fence. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe!
