It's the SCOOP for May 20, 2021
Your weekly news from Santa Barbara Middle School
Dear SBMS Families,

SBMS is officially back on the road again! After a year and a half of Covid-19 contingencies and hundreds of hours of planning, preparation and adjustments, we are thrilled to be relaunching our grade level expeditions over the next few weeks. On Monday, our sixth grade headed out down along the coast with our 9th grade leaders riding along beside them. After a beautiful ride to Ojai, they set up camp for the week. With a nutritious, tasty meal cooked by P.A. in their bellies, our sixth and ninth graders settled around the campfire for a night filled with stories, singing, laughter, and heartfelt gratitude. As the week progressed, our sixth grade cooled off in rivers, ate triple-decker sandwiches and strawberry shortcakes under sprawling oaks, and had time to connect and enjoy each other's company. We look forward to being able to share this experience with the other three grades in the coming weeks.

While our sixth grade is out adventuring, we wanted to share a community-wide Health & Safety update about a cohort in 8th grade that had a student test positive this past week. After initial contact tracing, we asked Cohort 8J to remain home for a 10-day quarantine. This 8th grade cohort will return to campus next week after sharing a negative PCR test result with the school. The group will also be tested twice with the rest of our 8th grade here on campus before heading out on trips. All of the cohort members other than the original positive student have received a negative test from their initial round of testing so far. As we continue to contact trace, we will keep you updated on any news and appreciate your efforts in respecting the privacy of our families and in helping keep our school community safe.

With these weeks feeling busier than ever, please continue to check your grade-level trip website and the SCOOP for the most up-to-date information as times and information may change. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the office. We look forward to ending the year strong!

With gratitude,
Brian, Bianca, Erik, and the SBMS Staff

Please sign up for a shift at the link below. Since the lower grade kids are out for the summer, they are welcome to help out, too!
