The cold dark days and bare trees of November serve as a reminder that 2019 is coming to a close. A new year full of possibilities is just around the corner! As we are setting goals and making plans for 2020, we are constantly reminded that our progress forward is built on the foundation of support and encouragement from our community.
The Emerson exists because of talented artists, enthusiastic students, invested members, creative tenants, thoughtful donors, hard-working volunteers, Art Walk goers, Lunch on the Lawn listeners, gingerbread house builders, gardening innovators, diverse event hosts and their guests, friendly downtown neighbors, generous sponsors, supportive fellow organizations, curious visitors, and everyone who has shared their Emerson stories.
We are humbled and grateful for each of you. In a season of gratitude and hope, we wish you joy in celebrating the people that support and encourage you.

Celebration of the Arts

The Celebration of the Arts is bringing the lively culture of Scotland to the Emerson with our very own version of a "Burns Nicht Feast."
Each year all of Scotland turns out to celebrate the birth of Robert Burns a renowned Scottish poet. The celebration includes a feast, whiskey, bagpipes, robust toasts, laughter, and jovial readings of Robert Burns popular writings.
Dust off your favorite Burns poetry, air out your best tartan, and join us for an evening of grand entertainment, Scotch Whiskey tastings, delicious food, quick draw artists, live & silent auctions, laughter and robust toasts. This year's auction includes artworks from more that 50 Montana artists, generous gift baskets from local businesses, over night whitewater rafting adventures, AND a trip of a lifetime to Scotland!

Celebration of the Arts kicks off with special exhibit opening during Art Walk on December 13. The Celebration of the Arts Exhibition features a selection of artists who support the Emerson. Bids open during Art Walk on December 13, 2019 and close during the Celebration of the Arts Gala on January 24, 2020.
This exhibit is open to the public,
Tuesday - Friday, Noon - 5:00PM and on select Saturdays.

Winter art education classes are open. We offer a wide variety of art classes for ages 2 to 102. We also offer PIR day and Spring Break camps for kids.

|
Carrie French grew up with a fascination for cities. Being born and raised in Bozeman, Montana, the architecture, graffiti, crowds, subways, all of it, felt like an exciting other world that she longed to explore. As an adult, she fulfilled a lifelong dream to live in New York city, and it, and other cities she travels to and explores continue to be a constant source of inspiration for her painting.

|
Bruce Muhlbradt of 406 Photography grew up in a large extended family in the wilds of North Dakota, learning to love the beauty in landscapes and people. He discovered his love of photography while traveling in the jungles of Brazil and the outback of Australia.
Interested in the storytelling aspect of photography, Bruce began pursuing photo journalistic projects. Seeing his work in print was satisfying, but what I earned was disheartening to say the least. One day my mum suggested I try photographing a wedding. I thought it was a terrible idea but I was very wrong. I loved it and haven't turned back!
 Love of family, friends, and his partner are what make life beautiful and is what he treasures most. This belief is has led to his passion for photographing weddings and families. Photography is the opportunity capture the celebration of life and love between people.

A MODERN IMPACT: The Work of Rudy & Lela Autio

Rudy and Lela Autio paved the way for the modern art movement in Monta
na. From roots in Butte and Great Falls, Rudy and Lela made their mark in the art history books after nearly 60 years of dedication to art making and advocation.
Rudy helped build and develop the Archie Bray Clay Center in Helena an
d started the Ceramics program at the University of Montana, Missoula. Lela had a hand in the creation of the first art museum in Missoula, in the old Carnegie Library on Pattee St. Both Rudy and Lela received the Governor's Award in the Arts. Rudy in 1981 and Lela in 2015.

| Emerson History The Emerson is a thriving arts and community center located a block from historic downtown Bozeman. The building was originally an elementary school built in 1918, attended by thousands of Bozeman youth before its closure in 1991.  |
Support the Emerson At the Emerson, we are grateful for the generous community support that allows us to serve as a vital arts hub in Bozeman. Over 250,000 people have come to the Emerson each year to attend performances, take classes, and participate in community events.  |
Volunteer with the Emerson As a community arts hub, the Emerson relies on the time, energy and enthusiasm donated by community volunteers and interns. You can get involved by becoming a docent, by helping with events, children's classes or in our office.  |
