Next Habitat Home Dedication for Shalethia Brown is November 21st at 255 Gaines Street
We love this event because we get to brag about our committed volunteers, dedicated donors and the community that supports us. We are also excited about laying out the blueprint for the follow year. Every year we get stronger thanks to our supporters; and 2020 promises to be an incredible year of growth. (More about that in the November issue.) The Blueprint Breakfast also kicks off the Habitat Business Build. This unique build gives businesses a chance to show off their spirit and community pride. Walls up for this build will be on  CEO Day on Friday, October 25 th at 8:00 . If your CEO has not reserved a spot please contact Director, Amie Fraley at (910) 295-1934. This is a great networking opportunity for our business community and a chance to promote giving back within your company.

Sandhills Habitat has a wide variety of was to get involve, something for everyone. These are just some of the ways that you can get involved.

1. Join the 2020 Women Build
Our incredible Women Build Committee led by Sally Brown and Habitat Homeowner, Victoria Lopez! On October the 9 th at CCNC they kicked off their fundraising leg of the build, and kick it off, they did!

Kathy Beddow and Lynda Moegling led the first fundraising event – a super-successful fall fashion show! The ladies hit a cool $30,000 gross proceeds for the night! They estimate $6,000 in total expenses, and this does not include a generous business sponsorship from Tammy Lyne earmarked for this build! Wow!!!!!!! We had rave reviews from the attendees, and it was wonderful to see all of our local boutiques in full force. Just a heads up for those as fashion-challenged as I, animal prints are where it’s at this season – as our emcee, Kelly Ward, noted, “Don’t be left out in the cold without your signature animal print piece this fall!” Consider yourself warned.

2. Fundraising for the Pinckney Build
Thank you to our Pinckney and Carthage leaders who were on site for Community Day to show their support of the Pinkney students who are building this Habitat Home. Thank you for helping make this happen. What progress the crew has made in these first 6 weeks! Foundation is laid, floor system is installed and the shed is on its way! Many thanks to Bill Montgomery and Sonia Wriglesworth who volunteer weekly and have been devoted to helping the students grow and the build progress!

4.Volunteers Needed in the ReStore
If you really don’t want to swing a hammer, here are some other ways to help support the cause. Our Restore locations in Moore and Richmond Counties are always looking for volunteers to help with donations, merchandising, and cashiering. And speaking of Restore, we continue to make changes and invest in new ideas to bring in more revenue from the donations that you bring us. Rug racks arrived, making it easier for buyers to peruse through carpets.

The ReStore also continues to leverage relationship with national vendors to get new merchandise with extraordinary pricing for you! We sold 75 sets of sheets in the past 3 days. This is the picture of a really happy ReStore manager. FYI, whenever we post a ReStore picture with Dondi in it, our likes quadruple! Some people have their own fan club around here.

Habitat Homeowner Pays off Mortgage
Crystal Patterson, the newest homeowner to pay off her mortgage stopped by the office recently to express her appreciation to Habitat for enabling her to become a homeowner.  Crystal, who lives in Roseland Woods, moved into her home November 1, 2000.  Her daughter is now grown and lives on her own in Charlotte.  Crystal has worked at Sandhills Pediatrics in West End for several years.
Investing in our Construction Department

Investments back into staff and equipment are a fundamental part of continued growth and work efficiency for our construction department.

Habitat of the NC Sandhills also serves Richmond County with one new home build a year. To ensure our Richmond Co. build was successful, we fully furnished our construction trailer with new equipment; such as battery powered drills, new saws and safety equipment. Volunteers are utilized to the maximum when staff has the right tools and materials available to them.

Not all equipment is purchased. At times we have donations of new equipment. Carolina Farm Credit in Carthage recently provided us with three 8’step ladders as a Gift-in-Kind donation purchased at Burney’s Hardware in Aberdeen. A great blessing that save money for the equipment budget.

Responsible stewardship of donors giving is always part of this Habitat’s mission; thank you for your support!
Repairs Revitalizes Neighborhood and
improve Quality of Life
Mr. Larry Thompson is wheelchair-bound and lives by himself in Dobbins Heights in a single wide trailer. He had been trapped in his trailer and required family to carry him in and out of his home. He applied for support through the new Neighborhood Revitalization program. Developed with Dobbins Heights last May, this program enable community members to improve their living conditions, address safety concerns, or increase accessibility.

A Revitalization team in Dobbins Heights gathered two Saturdays to remove old steps and replace it with a new wheel chair ramp. The team built this ramp with the help of Habitat for Humanity construction staff, Americorps member RB Gardner, and a hardcore volunteer, Justin Gaige, from Moore County.
Before
After
We are pleased to announce we are expanding our Neighborhood Revitalization efforts beyond the current and quite successful Neighborhood Revitalization program in Dobbins Heights.

Habitat and community leaders in West Southern Pines are currently in the initial stage of developing a Neighborhood Revitalization program for West Southern Pines.

We have started the process of formalizing and incorporating an Aging In Place strategy into our Neighborhood Revitalization program.

If you know a community or neighborhood that would be interested in our Neighborhood Revitalization program please contact our Community Outreach Coordinator R. B. Gardner at rgardner@sandhillshabitat.org 910-295-1934 EXT 2350.
