Letter from the Principal
Who knew we would have a surprise break in the routine with ice days, but no one complained. It gave us all a chance to rest, catch up on work, and build a very small snowman. We are once again regrouping and moving forward. This is a busy place ; we have a play production coming up, soccer matches to play, and a host of other activities happening.

Our students are loving the cocoa from the Knight and Day Coffee Company on Fridays. It is a tasty treat and fun to be in the line and served by the older students. On Monday we will celebrate Valentine's Day with a special treat, so we will be selling hot drinks Friday and Monday.

We are also excited about Chick-fil-A delivery on Mondays and Fridays beginning this week. You may order on line for your students, and each nugget and chicken sandwich meal is $6. We are also looking for parent volunteers to help us distribute the meals. If you have signed up to be a PIE volunteer, you have to be background checked before you can begin helping. The background check link can be found towards the end of the newsletter.

Hundred Days of School was a lot of fun, and our kindergarten senior citizens did not disappoint with their parade. Other students wore shirts with 100 objects on them for us all to admire.

And finally, yearbooks are still on sale at Jostens.com. Our students are working hard, and the book is looking great. Don't forget to order one for your student; we do not plan on ordering extra this year.

Proud to be a Knight,
Marsha Cawthon

Curriculum Corner
In 7th grade humanities this week, students are exploring imagery and descriptive language in their novel study, Tangerine. They had a multisensory lesson where they applied their knowledge to writing descriptions after peeling and eating their own tangerine! This is just one of many daily experiences where learning is both hands on and fun at Trivium!
Denton County Scripps Spelling Bee Winner!
Congratulations to 7th grader, Ryan Gerard, who competed and won 2nd place in the Scripps Denton County Spelling Bee this week!

Ryan has worked so hard this year preparing for the Bee. He will now go on to compete in the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee in March. We're so proud of you Ryan!
Happy National Counselor's Week!
For National School Counselor Week, students and staff showed some love to the fabulous Mrs. Story. So much of what she does for our school happens behind the scenes, but we feel the difference that she makes every single day. We're so lucky to have such a wonderful counselor on staff at Trivium. Thank you, Mrs. Story!

Knight Watch
Hi, Knights! I want to make sure my students have exactly what they need to succeed, so I've created a project through DonorsChoose, the nonprofit classroom funding site for public school teachers.

Here's my project:

Give to my classroom by February 16, 2022 and your donation will be doubled thanks to DonorsChoose. Just enter the code LIFTOFF during checkout and you'll be matched dollar for dollar (up to $50).

In return, you'll receive our heartfelt gratitude.

Thank you for considering a gift to my class!

Coach Zea

P.S. If you know anyone who may want to help my students, please pass this along!
This week in Trivium Athletics!
The Men's and Women's JV soccer teams are off and running this week. Both teams played on Thursday at Premier Park in Balch Springs. The Men played again on Friday at home. They both return this week on Tuesday and Thursday at our home field. Games are at 5:30 and 7:00. Come out and support our Knights. Admission is FREE!
Save the Date: Trivium Golf Tournament!
We have started our push for our 4th Annual Golf Tournament. I always get a lot of questions from parents about how they can help if they are not golfers. We are hoping to have 100 golfers again this year, but another great way to help us is to sponsor a hole. You can sponsor a hole if you are a family or a business. Your name or business will be proudly displayed on one of the tournament tee boxes at the tournament and we thank you on social media. This will also enable you to add any type of ad specialty item or sales brochure to be placed in all of the player bags that go out. If you have any questions please feel free to email me at cynthia.zea@triviumacademytx.com.
The Fine Arts Showcase
Ms. Gallegos (elementary music) and Ms. Kroesch (secondary choir) had the opportunity to attend professional development workshops last week at the Texas Music Educators Association's annual conference in San Antonio. We can't wait to hear all about what they learned!

Tickets will go on sale soon for the secondary musical production, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown! Be on the lookout for the link to purchase coming later this week.
Facilities Update
Last year, the board signed a two-year lease extension (with an optional third year) on our current facilities at 2205 E Hebron Pkwy. We have been fortunate to start the school in our leased facilities here, and our Board of Directors has made it a priority to try and meet the needs, as well as the wants, of our school community as we plan a future move.

As previously shared, we held a focus group meeting in February of 2020 with the goal of finding out from a cross-section of our Trivium population what they felt should be preserved or enhanced from our current operations and what they felt should be the top concerns and priorities of our school board as it faced this decision point.

  • Location was the top priority.  Taking this into consideration, our search has been focused on a ten-mile radius to the north/northeast of our current campus which leaves us close to our existing campus while moving us closer to the center of our boundaries.
  • The next priority was to preserve the school culture.  Overwhelmingly, the most important consideration of the participants was keeping the entire Trivium family together on one campus.  As a result, we have been looking for a location that would be big enough to house our K-12th grade population.
  • Finally, the group also highly valued the educational philosophy and instructional model currently utilized.  It was important to the participants that the experiential, authentic, inquiry-based learning experiences would be able to be continued and even enhanced in a new location.  Therefore, a guiding principle for the search is that the new campus should not only meet our current standards but also offer more in the way of collaborative and performing arts space.
  • In addition to the priorities concerning the physical campus, the long-range sustainability of any plan was also discussed.  There must be a balance between wants and needs when thinking about affordability.  Financial considerations and the long-term stability of the school weigh heavily as decisions are being made.

Our intent is for all of our student population to stay on our current campus through the next school year and move for the start of the 2023-2024 school year. This will be dependent on the timeline for construction of a storm shelter, but we should know by June if a storm shelter could be completed on time. If not, we will stay in our current location through the 2023-24 school year. The future is bright for Trivium Academy, and we can't wait to share more information with you as it becomes available!
COVID-19 Updates
We continue to implement the same precautions that we've been maintaining for almost 2 years now. We are sanitizing, handwashing, encouraging social distancing, and notifying parents of close contacts. We do encourage mask wearing during any spike to slow the spread.

While the Texas Education Agency has released new quarantine guidance for school staff who have COVID-19 or have been in close contact with someone who does, there is no change to the quarantine period for students at this time. The quarantine period for students remains at 10 days following the Texas Department of State Health Services which schools must follow. TEA Commissioner Mike Morath said districts should expect updates to the student part of the quarantine guidance, but to date, no changes have been made. We will keep you posted if anything does change.
Attendance Reminders
To report an absence please email a parent note or medical excuse for each absence to attendance@triviumacademytx.com. Include the student’s name, grade, and homeroom teacher.  You may attach doctor’s notes to the email or turn them in to the front office. After three parent notes, our school policy requires a medical note to excuse an absence.

Elementary (K-6th) Attendance is taken daily at 9:20am.

Secondary (7-11) Attendance is taken at the beginning of each class period. Official attendance for the day is taken at 9:30.

If your student is marked absent an auto generated email is sent to the parent if that option has been selected in the Parent Portal. These emails will always state that the absence is unexcused. Also, students who are quarantining due to COVID-19 will be marked absent by the homeroom teacher. The attendance office will later code the absence appropriately based on the documentation received.

As a public school, we must follow Texas Education Code (TEC) 25.092 which states that a student may not be given credit for a class unless the student is in attendance for at least 90% of the days the class is offered. That means a student may only be absent seven times in the fall semester and nine times in the spring semester to retain credit for the grade level. If your child has absences beyond those numbers, you may be asked to appear before the attendance committee. The attendance committee may give class credit to a student who is in attendance less than the number of days required because of extenuating circumstances.

We take the responsibility of educating our students seriously, and excessive absences can hinder a student’s progress and the school’s ability to provide for his/her educational needs. We do understand that children get ill, and we certainly understand when they are too sick to come to school. We appreciate your help in making sure your child is present for school at all other times.
