Did you know that the CASC minor is celebrating 10 Years? As part of the celebration, we rolled out our PodCASC. An ongoing series of interviews that feature the diverse stories of CASC Alumni who share highs, lows, and other revelations about community action and social change after college. Alumni discuss a range of issues, like finding a social justice community in a new city, navigating social justice language in different work cultures, finding a balance between their passion and capacity, and much more.

10 Year Anniversary Website
We are excited to announce the launch of our website for the CASC 10 year anniversary. You can find information about our anniversary programs including: CASC Stories Project, PodCASC, keynote speakers, our alumni panel, the community art installation and more. The website also shares CASC accomplishments throughout the years, and you can see what Alumni are behind planning this year's events.

Preferred Admissions
Declared CASC students are eligible to apply to the MSW preferred admissions program.To learn more, go to  Preferred Admissions  or contact the Office of Student Services at (734) 936-0961 to schedule a phone or in-person appointment. Additionally, prospective applicants are required to complete an  info form ,  prior to submitting a preferred admissions application.
Part-Time MSW Options
Part-time options for the MSW Program allows students to complete the master of social work degree requirements through part-time enrollment. The part-time options increase access to the MSW degree for qualified students who cannot enroll full-time. Find out more here.
Poverty Solutions Certificate  
Are you interested in the Poverty Solutions Certificate? Schedule an appointment or drop by the CASC office during academic advising. Information on the requirements can be found on the  CASC Minor website .  For more information about the Poverty Solutions Center, visit  poverty.umich.edu .

World AIDS Day - Film Screening & Panel

Join Spectrum Center’s Programming Board, Unified, and SNPhA as we recognize World AIDS Day on December 5th, 2019. World AIDS Day takes place on December 1st each year. It’s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. To recognize this day, we will be hosting an event that includes a screening of “A Day With(out) Art” and after the movie will be a panel with a variety of HIV/AIDS specialists. We will have food, drinks, and information on AIDS awareness. We hope to see you there!

CEW+ Study Day: End of Term Lunch & Recharge

Students are invited to drop in and take advantage of our study spaces, self-care activities, and healthy snacks. There will also be a social hour with lunch from 12:30-1:30 PM (RSVP requested for planning purposes). Feel free to drop in and socialize with other students or stay all day to get some work done. Either way, CEW+ is here to support you! Bring friends to study together in our quiet spaces, or just hang out and meet other students from different departments in relaxing and welcoming spaces throughout the Center. Children are welcome with a designated child-friendly study space. If you would like to attend the lunch, please RSVP. No registration is otherwise needed to drop in. RSVP here
Engage: Detroit Student Showcase

Join us in celebrating our students' work in Detroit at the  "Engage: Detroit Student Showcase"   on December 12th, from 10 am to 1 pm at the Detroit Center. Transportation will be provided from the School of Social Work to the Detroit Center and back. Enjoy lunch while h earing about the inspiring work that students are doing, and  network with Detroit-based activists, community organizations, elected officials, and each other!

The Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship

FLAS provides tuition and stipend to students studying designated foreign languages in combination with area studies or international aspects of professional studies. The priority is to encourage the study of less commonly taught modern languages. The U.S. Department of Education (US/ED) funds these awards under the provisions of Title VI of the Higher Education Act. The amount of funding and number of awards are contingent upon annual US/ED program approval, federal regulations, as well as continued congressional funding, all of which may change from year to year. Applications are due by January 15 are encouraged to visit the  U-M FLAS Applicant Resources Page  prior to beginning the application process.

International Institute Individual Fellowship
Deadline: mid February
The International Institute Individual Fellowships are designed to support University of Michigan students, regardless of citizenship, who are enrolled in a degree program and wish to participate in internships or conduct research abroad. To be eligible for this award students must spend at least 1 month abroad, with a 30-hour-per-week time commitment. Award amounts are up to $5,000.  Learn More
This is a funded opportunity that allows undergraduate students from all majors to gain extensive design experience, learn about healthcare practices in low-resource clinical settings, and prepare for careers in medical device design, ergonomics, operations research, global health, and sustainable development. The Global Health Design Academic Program consists of a 4-8 week summer immersion experience at a hospital in Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, or Michigan that informs a novel design project to be completed in Fall 2020. All selected students will be awarded a Global Health Design Scholarship and will receive up to $4,500 USD to offset travel costs. The priority application deadline is December 4, 2019. Learn More

Separated: Family and Community in the Aftermath of an Immigration Raid - A Book Talk with Bill Lopez
Bill Lopez joined us at the School of Social Work to discuss his book, Separated, which examines the lasting damage done by a daylong act of collaborative immigration enforcement in Washtenaw County, Michigan. Exploring the chaos of immigration enforcement through the lens of community health, Lopez discussed deportation's rippling negative effects and revealed the efforts by families to cope with trauma, avoid homelessness, handle worsening health, and keep their families together.

Transportation to DTW Airport
Central Student Government is always here to help connect students to the airport through the   Airbus   service. Service to and from DTW should be efficient, affordable, and fit into the student lifestyle, which is why Airbus picks up at three stops right on campus. Students can reserve their seats to DTW through the Airbus page, including for  Winter Break , and will just find the Airbus kiosk at the airport to head back to Ann Arbor - no need to make a reservation to return.

Community Engagement: Collaborating for Change Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) provides resources for learners to better understand community engagement, and how they may more effectively engage in their practice. The course comprises five individual modules, all determined based on input from faculty, staff, students, and community partners.  Learn more
